Do you think going back to the moon is worthwhile?

First and foremost, if you think the moon landing was fake then please take that nonsense to the conspiracy thread, that's not the topic at hand.


But that said, it's been almost half a centure since we've sent a human and the technology kind of died out.


Why getting back to the moon is so damn hard



We could develop it again if the desire was there, but the main issue is that many people don't think it's worth the huge cost and investment it would take. Back when we first went the main desire was to beat Russia at all costs, so the government was willing to spend the money/time/resources. Future missions would have to be motivated purely by a desire to explore, and that's just not as strong a motivator to spend billions of dollars.

But on the other hand, space travel is never going to go anywhere if we never want to allocate any resources to it, and space missions often DO lead to scientific advancements. Plus a moon base would be cool, and it could actually be done today if we really wanted to.




So should we go back to the moon? Or is it too expensive to be worthwhile?

I think the amount of technology used, polished, upgraded, and learned from going to the moon is enough to justify the costs and science of going. It's going to open up new markets, force a new market for engineers, scientists, and programmers, and keep us in the 21st century.
