Put race to the side for a sec
I was thinking about this the other day cause i was reading biographies about successful people
Most of them came from some sort of mud.

Do spoiled children flame out?
Do tougher lives result in tougher people?

It's like working out. You get stronger as you handle challenges. Too big of an obstacle though and it might injure you or break you. And if your life is nothing but hurdles, you might get overworked and burn out without seeing any progress.

Success is struggle meeting ability at the right timing. If the ability part is overlooked, struggle will lead to failure.

It's really hard to seperate socio-economics out of the equation. A "challenging" upbringing often means growing up surrounded by a whole lot of negative things that can distract kids from success and without many of the resources that others are afforded. There are just so many pitfalls. However, for those that can stay on the right path, I'd say the adversity they encounter while growing up will definitely better prepare them mentally over the folks who did not routinely worry about eating or having lights.

1. Define success, income over 100k?

2. Where is your source that most successful people come from poor backgrounds? The research I've seen suggests the opposite. Data shows children of poor parents tend to stay poor, and children of well off parents tend to do even better than their parents.

No, discipline and knowledge contribute to developing a successful adult. Growing up seeing your mother on drugs and your dad molesting your sister is a challenge. It's also called dysfunction. Strong parenting makes a successful adult. Not putting a child through hell and hoping they climb out. Society shows that's rare.

Most of the books that I've read of successful people, not a broad study

Rags to riches makes for good book sales, but in general most successful people came from good homes.

Most these doctors, bankers, lawyers, executives did not come from the mud. They came from middle to upper middle class homes.

Very few high income earners come from poor households. There's been hundreds of studies, and they all consistently show the same result.

I’m not into romanticizing struggle.

The older I get and more I’ve seen inside corporations I see that most of these rich white kids are set up for SUCCESS.

There was a young prick in my building that was the head of his department, even though he had no leadership skills and was an all around awful person.

People wondered how he even qualified for the position.

Come to find out his dad is Vice President of one of the other companies in the building and pulled strings for junior.

Someone saw the family pictures in dads office and outed him.:yeshrug:
