not sure if ancestry.com does this, but for african americans, there is hope. you can do dna testing, where they will match ur dna to a specific region/tribe in africa.

You do realize things like that are quite common don't you? The average African American has between 15-18% white DNA that was mostly forcibly injected into the bloodline through slavery.

You can give it a shot, you might hit a wall going back more than 200 or so years, but it could be worth a shot . Wait for one of the free trials

I'm black and Ancestry.com does free trial memberships for 2 weeks. I subscribed and cancelled on the 13th day so my card was not charged. I found my grandfather;s draft card when he was 18 and little shyt like that but all they do is search public records we all have access to.

Make sure you talk to your grandparents or family members first about information. I did all the research going back to 1870-something, just for my grandmother to tell me she knew all of this already.

It does work i made it back to slavery. I also found info on them Cacs (rapists) that owned my family, made it back to 1699 in that blood line. Also found some mulattoes and quadroons in my family tree.

I did the DNA test 6 months ago....it'll break down the percentage of countries/regions that you're genetically related to, but not the actual tribal affiliation. I put a picture of those results in another thread

That being said...I was pleasantly surprised, it really does change how you see yourself.
