Just finished watching that Ali documentary and this shyt better win an Emmy. Probably the best documentary I've seen in a long time. shyt was sad to see Ali go from being an intelligent and quick witted man to a slower thinking man due to the sport.:mjcry: Makes it more apparent Floyd made the right decision getting out when he did.

But this dude has a great filmography. A few misses there but when he is successful, he hits. Of course with one of the goats in Training day. Just I don't see his name often though when black excellence in Hollywood is discussed. :blessed:

Behind the scenes he is a very respected filmmaker, he doesn't beg for camera time like other black directors (tyler perry, spike, hughes brothers) so that makes him seem underrated, but he's good.

george tillman is the same way.

Most of his movies are just :ehh: imo. They’re not bad and you’re not mad you watched them but they’re not great either.

Training Day is his only classic film imo and I think it’s moreso the script and Denzel’s performance that makes that movie great rather than Fuqua’s direction

He is like Wolfgang Petersen without that last bit of screen polish, without the technical ability - especially with actions scenes and with a little more in terms of breh influences.

Watch a Petersen film and see for yourself.
You could swap him and Fuqua in these films and it would feel 80 - 90% the same.

:hhh: Tell me I'm lying. These feel like Fuqua trailers.

The music, the angles, the shots, the michael bay-liteness.
They are creative twins.

Spike Lee and The Hughes Bros do NOT “beg” for camera time. Spike Lee is an Auteur, and the most well renowned and respected BLACK Auteur of our time (though Donald Glover looks like he’s coming for the crown with a fierceness)

Spike Lee has gone to bat for black filmmaking since the beginning of his career, almost every single interview he’s going for black rights and equality. Dude single handedly made it so that a white man wouldn’t direct and ruin the Malcolm X movie, then he got is hands on it, made a CLASSIC, and requested for all news outlets and press to send him black reporters to interview him. Many of these press outlets didn’t even HAVE black reporters and had to rethink their hiring practices.
