Does anyone else feel The Mouse and the Mask is HEAVILY underrated when discussing the best DOOM albums? Some of his most fun yet complex wordplay combined with Dangermouse's literally perfect-for-doom beats put it at a verrry close second behind madvillainy for me. Thoughts?

I think you probably had to be a adult swim fan to really get it

I wasn't, so the project didn't resonate with me as much as it may have others.

In saying that though it still came across as his most 'hipsterish' ......for want of a better (or even legible term) ...,.....project, and I'd put it well behind food, madvillainy etc. It wasn't bad at all, but coming at his peak it was something of a disappointing purchase.

Yeah a lot of the skits and references were very "2006 adult swim" heavy.

Loved the shyt out of this album at the time. DOOM was such lyrical monster back then. Kweli & Ghostface kilt their features too.

Yeah its mostly the beats which let it down for me, not that theyre terrible, and yeah he was killing everything then lyrically...but DMS production wasn't as fitting as everything else he was over at the time..all that other dark, soulful, off key comic book weird shyt and this came quite light n bubbly

If I had been watching adult swim I'd likely have a better perception of it though

And tbh it could do with a relisten.

It was aite. I liked it a lot at the time but I don't play it much anymore. It's the closest he's come to a "mainstream" album.

Doom's catalog is really crazy when you think about it. All in a very short time span, mad variety

Knowing the references is huge, but it's still well done. My favorite has always been Benzie Box. Goes hard, plus DOOM was saying some wild shyt.
