Because I still don't know a single person that bought these and I thought to myself, yeah Valve was right about Microsoft. They were proactive to create the SteamOS, Steam Hardware and the Steam Machine project, but the shyt isn't as nice as people thought it would be :francis:

Microsoft is about to step on Valve's neck here soon once Scorpio is out there and even more of those games are a part of the play anywhere program. The idea that Scorpio will play XBOX 360, XBOX WON and even possibly OG XBOX games alongside with the 4K games support has got to have valve thinking what they are going to do next. Games on Windows shyt all over Linux as a whole...have you seen the benchmarks?

Honestly it feels like it is going to be Valve vs Microsoft, not Sony vs Microsoft with their new approach. Spencer acknowledging that console generations should not be thought of the same way...buy the game once and play it wherever and however you want. Things are getting interesting :lupe:

I'm sure @Ciggavelli has one somewhere, probably that Zotac box knowing him :francis:

I don't understand your reasoning here... :jbhmm:

Steam is the dominant gaming storefront for PC gamers.

What does the Scorpio have to do with any of that?

It's still an Xbox... It's not a new platform that will be a steal for PC gamers. By the time it comes out, PC hardware will have already surpassed it at whatever price point it launches at.

Valve still got PC gamers on lock.. Unless you think suddenly because of the Scorpio, people will be moving away from gaming PC's to a Scorpio which.. doesn't make sense at all since it's still a console and it's play anywhere thing is still going to be limited to very few actual games.

Even if you rationalize it as "Oh but you can play it on Scorpio too!"... Well why?? The hypothetical PC gamer would've bought it on Steam in the first place, at a lower price point on an ecosystem he's already invested in.

I think the actual amount of people that will be :eat: off of the Play anywhere thing where they have a scorpio and a gaming PC is going to be very small.

Idk. :yeshrug:

Nintendo has been trying to do it. One handheld device for everything that connects to a big screen when necessary. They were testing that theory with Wii U. Microsoft it doing it their own way with an ecosystem that utilizes all of their hardwhere (Tablet, console, laptop) together. Microsoft is ahead of the game IMO and they will win next gen if all goes well. Cross-play between console and PC is the last bullet they need to fire.

Obviously steam is dominant in terms of sales, but their steam machines project has been an absolute disaster.

What's going on right now with the xbox and windows platform is what Valve was scared of and they failed to make a compelling case for people to buy a steam machine over a console for those who have a large library and want to play on the couch with a controller. Now that Microsoft is trying to get everything cross platform between xbox consoles and Windows PC's is no bueno for Valve.

The idea of crossplay between xbox and windows > steam and steamOS.

Don't get me wrong Valve is going to be dominant for a while, but this might be the competition people have been looking for.

You mean by "Win" by outselling Sony consoles? I am not ready to go that far...

Their strategy is a different shift. The idea that the Scorpio vs the NEO sales is the end-all in terms of a "winner" of a "generation" doesn't make sense anymore...it's changing.

Yeah I get that but the thing is, Microsoft so far doesn't seem to have that much titles that will actually be cross play compatible. Unless they somehow start dropping a gang of third party games on W10 that is cross play compat. with Xbox One then I can see it being advantageous. As of now the only upcoming games that I think that will be cross play/buy are Gears of War 4 and FH2.

I personally never seen the point of Valve going for couch gamers. The person who's heavy into PC gaming most likely can rig together something to satisfy their need and the Steam controller seems to take care of that. I don't see why someone would buy a Steam OS machine over building one. It's like Valve is trying to solve a problem that isn't even there.

It's early breh, this is all speculation. I am just interested in how things go. Spencer already came out and said that asking about OG XBOX games is not a dumb question...who the fukk knows what those guys are up to.

I think hell would freeze over if Microsoft actually OK'd an official OG XBOX and XBOX 360 emulation project on the PC to make the project compatible with thousands of games.

I don't have a steam machine, but I was seriously considering buying an OriginPC "steam machine" with a Titan X in it a while ago. I ultimately decided against it, but I''ll probably buy a mini ATX steam box with a 1080ti when they come out. I'll sell my 2 1080s and get a 10 series Titan when it comes out too for my main PC. I wanna get away from SLI, but with my resolution (3440x1440p or 3K if you wanna put it in K terms) you still need 2 cards to go all ultra, 60fps. I hope the new Titan allows that with one card. If not, I'll just wait for the 1180s. :manny:

the Steam Controller is dope :yeshrug:

Valve never delivered any real advantage to switch to their OS. there is clearly a market for console sized PC's though

That's the problem, Valve keeps promoting it as a system that is not supposed to replace anything but it is very limited.

Yeah it's not supposed to replace your desktop, but it needs to do a whole lot more to get people interested. It's the reason I love my XBOX One...if they removed all the TV/Media features I probably would not even own one anymore tbh.
