Does anyone wonder how our life would have been if instead of our ancestors coming to America they ended up in South America?

I genuinely wonder if our lives would be any better or worse than now. Although black people still face police brutality in Latin America , there wasn’t segregation or Jim Crow laws, there isn’t mass shootings targeting black people, no lynchings, no medical experiments, interracial marriages weren’t illegal…..

If you compare the history we have in America to our Latin brehs, we certainly have faced more challenges and issues. This isn’t to say their isn’t racism in Latin America( because there definitely is) but it seems to be way less than what we face here

we all went thru the same thing... Nobody had it easier or harder under colonial oppression.
there isn’t mass shootings targeting black people, no lynchings, no medical experiments

everybody's ancestors suffered thru this.... everyones ancestors been shot, burned alive, drowned, hung, dismembered, eaten by dogs, been medically experimented, got beat to death, stabbed to death, starved to death etc etc etc
interracial marriages weren’t illegal

interracial marriage being banned was a GOOD thing.

Look at Latin America full of mixed breeds.

You should be happy.

I'm happy as fukk to still be 95% African after 500 years.

Nobody would think about you if you were born in Latin America. I remember being a kid watching the world cup wondering why Colombia and other Latin American countries had so many black people but never saw that represented here. Cuba and many other latin american countries had to deal with constant slave revolts by their black population that are marginalized because they didn't succeed and the governments whitened their population in response.

Look at Paraguay. Not black, but they made racial mixing a major goal. And their pure indigenous population suffers greatly. What the Latin American governments have done is downplay race, or try and get people to not think about it in favor of Nationalism. Fidel did the same shyt, even while revered as some savior. Meanwhile, black people are at the bottom of the totem pole everywhere. The U.S. never managed to do that. Black Americans are special. But all our ancestors suffered greatly, regardless where they settled.

It wasn't unheard of for family members to split up and sold between the British, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Dutch etc. Patty from 12 Years A Slave was originally from Cuba and spoke Spanish as a first language. There are chances thar ADOS may have distant relatives in Latin America and the former Dutch colonies.

:why:

I already acknowledged that police brutality exists. What I mean by mass shooting is a white domestic terrorist shooting anyone black that’s shopping at a supermarket or a church.

Afro Latinos are in an arguably much worse state than Aframs across the board. Less representation, VASTLY less wealth, more violence, often worse birth rates surprisingly enough. At least in the US black people were able to exploit American liberty propaganda - literally none of that exists in Latin America. Afro Brazilians are really fukked in particular. Even worse wealth inequality than the US and over 60k homicides annually.

We’ll I mean, some of ours did, we probably just don’t know it, I think without the heavy European presence things would actually be more modern there I’m guessing, I’d hope in that time line the rainforests don’t get pimped out
