Does it matter for Game Storage? SSD vs HDD

I've been an SSD guy for ages, but this was mainly for my PC. In the context of gaming does it really matter?

for my PS5.

My main thing with going with SSDs was after I had a HDD fail back in the day and I lost years of music.

I assume there is no real performance difference with games actually stored on the HDD vs SSD?

PS5 games will only play on the internal ssd and there a large difference. Right now you can't store PS5 games on an external for backup storage either.

If you're just looking to play PS4 games ssd or hdd is fine. I'd get a 1 TB ssd and a cheap enclosure for half the price of the WD there though.

I'm also looking for a external SSD for my PS5 to replace my 4TB HDD external with that being said

You can only use external for PS4 games on the PS5 currently

The max speed on the usb ports of the PS5 is 10Gbps, so you won't reach the 2000MB read speeds with that external

yeah i know. PS5 supposed to have eventusl support but this is to offload my ps4 library until them

Even if there was no difference (there is, a demonstrable one), if you're worried about reliability get away from that spinning disc

Save your money and wait till they let us update the Ps5 storage. That’ll be the real big ticket item. 2 gigs of that ssd M2 will probably run you 300 plus
