Does KRS get a pass for starting the Shan beef over false pretenses?

The Bridge Is Over is still to this day the GOAT diss record and KRS is one of my idols.

But can we agree that the stated reason for the beef was bullshyt? He knows Shan wasn't really saying hip-hop started in QB. Everyone knows hip-hop started in the South Bronx. Shan was just paying homage to his scene in QB, shouting out people and places.

:krs: was really salty because Marley Marl and Mr. Magic passed on him.

It was some rap Gulf of Tonkin incident shyt like Pac claiming Biggie got him shot, or 50's various made up beefs. It seems :krs: escapes criticism for it though because it happened before the information age.

KRS started that Nelly beef over some bullshyt too over a decade later. It didn't end the same way though obviously.

That beef was pure Hip Hop and part of what this culture is about, why should he get called out? as long as they are kept on wax beefs are good for hip hop, it can bring out the best from an MC.

Yeah I agree. But I'm saying if we're going to be consistent, other people get criticized for starting beef about one thing when it was really something else. Look at T. I. and Lil Flip.

Mr Magic dissed BDP, and he pointed at Shan and others basically bigging them up and dissing BDP. That's why he dissed them.

It was almost a guilty by association thing. in regards to The Bridge I don't think Shan did anything wrong no.

The Nelly shyt nah, I think Nelly deserved to get dissed. And Nelly got destroyed horribly, then eventually got on the Self Construction record.

Shan wasn't dissing BDP though. :comeon: BDP didn't have a hit until the South Bronx.

True, as far as I'm aware Shan didn't say anything. But Mr Magic did and MC Shan was 1 of the MC's he was basically saying shytting on BDP, so like a guilty by association thing,

Bruh Mr. Magic didn't go out of his way to shyt on BDP. He just didn't like their demo tape.

:krs: was salty about that, so he went at the Juice Crew's front man (but he never went at Kane or G Rap, gee I wonder why?) and tried to say he said hip-hop started in QB, knowing he didn't say that.

It ended up working in his favor, he got the W, and it's one of the most iconic hip-hop events though. :manny:

Did you listen to the Marley Marl Combat Jack interview? He broke it down. Mr Magic didn't just not like it, he was quite rude and condescending and a bit of a dikkhead to them lol, he even pointed at CERTAIN members and was like these are the real MC's and your wack or something like that lol. He didn't diss Kane or G Rap cause Magic didn't point at them lol.

Nah I never heard it. I'll check for it sometime.

Edit: But let's be real, KRS didn't want it with Kane or G Rap. He went at Roxanne Shante though. I know him and Kane were cool.

Why say "Roxanne Shante is only good for steady fukking," but not mention Kane or G Rap? :sas2:

yo coli hip hop historians .... were mr. magic and marley marl collecting payola in the early days?

courtesy of wiki ...

KRS-One began his recording career as one third of the hip hop group Boogie Down Productions, or BDP, alongside DJ Scott La Rock and Derrick "D-Nice" Jones. They met during a stay KRS-One had at the Bronx Franklin Avenue Armory Shelter. La Rock (real name Scott Sterling) worked as a social worker there, and the two began to create music. After being rejected by radio DJs Mr. Magic and Marley Marl, KRS-One would go on to diss the two and those associated with them, sparking what would later be known as The Bridge Wars.

Juice Crew also didn't step in when he dissed Shan. "He talking about you, not me" - Kane and G Rap

I don't know about that. Marley was on the other side but said it wasn't cause of that but cause those were the direct people. Yeah Kane and KRS were/are VERY cool, he helped him move house or something lol. I don't think KRS feared ANY MC, at first actually I think he underestimated Kane and thought he was more of a comedic rapper so wouldn't have even of been cautious, but apparently 1 night saw him at a club rippin it and was like ohh shyt, your ill lol. G Rap wasn't really involved, apparently him and Shan weren't even that tight so he didn't feel like he had to get involved. Obviously KRS vs G Rap or Kane would have been dope though. I respect MC Shan too though, I like him, thought he was dope.
