Because it seems like there's a difference, even if tiny

While there are indeed some people who look at music as their only way to make it out the hood, abandoning all other potential careers, I'd say that a good percentage of people making music just like to do it. Not everyone's trying to be the next Drake. Getting popular would be dope, of course. But why should one stop if they're not popular? People make indie movies that make little to no $.. Videos on YouTube for scraps.. But no one says they want to be a popular blockbuster movie making, academy award winning director..

Some people just enjoy making beats. Some people just enjoy writing songs. So it's kinda irritating in my eyes to see someone's hard work get dissed just because they rap. Sure there's a lot of garbage, no effort, soundcloud link spamming, rap-on-established-beats-cause-I-can't-make-beats-nor-will-I-invest-in-producers nikkas but if u think that's all that's out there you're missing out on a lot of good shyt. everyone wants to make an app, so what? Not every app made was an attempt at a cash grab

I'm high as fukk

i don't rap (yet) but i do music. for over 20 years. i say yet because i'd like to. but if i listened to every person that give me some sort of negative thought about my life choices, especially ones that made me happy, i wouldn't be where i am today. and it's not like i'm balling or anything but i'm self-sufficient, self-employed and living life on my time, traveling and playing music in different countries and where i live. i've done what most are afraid or unable to do: make a living off of music. ive had teachers in college, instructors, that barely play anywhere themselves, went thru college and shyt, had some other big shots kiss their ass simply because they (the professors) were kissing their ass (one big salad toss), and i remember some of them would talk shyt about my abilities, saying to other students shyt behind my back like "i don't think he'll make it". that same professor is sitting around in a town with no gigs outside his university gig (those that can't, teach) trying to push kickstarters and get people to buy his CD and i'm about to play a gig tonight, played last night, lead my own band the night before that, and i'm going out of town for gigs and shyt. all it took was for me to move from that environment.

never let anyone tell you want you can do, especially someone who doesn't do it themselves... :francis:

Not at all. It's a hobby. Writing is therapeutic and a good way to express yourself. It's an art form. (Rapping)

I stopped writing and recording a few years ago. I loved doing it though. To see a project/song through to the end and hearing the finished product is rewarding.

To those who do rhyme... Keep doing it.
