I think the reason for this may be that rock music has become almost completely cerebral at this point. There's no more new rock music that activates that reptilian part of your brain that just wants to eat, sleep, fight, fukk bytches, and just generally fukk shyt up anymore.

HipHop still has plenty of that, though :skip:

Maybe they don't want HipHop to turn into the giant, self-aware, vaginal musical circle-jerk that rock has. They want to keep that nihilism and rebelliousness that we all love intact :ld:

This has been my argument since day one regarding the typical white fan, you can't expect them to relate to rap that is too political. I can't blame them because they don't look for it in rock music, its mostly for the melody and catchy song lyrics. But they forget rap is totally different from rock music. But I understand their approach to our music. This is why garbage is selling, I hear white folks blasting Wiz Khalifa and Ross out their cars, white folks don't care about word play.

Its been fukk Pitchfork from the jump for me.

But I can't give them all the blame. Why da fukk would Chief Keef's people agree to do the interview (at a gun range) in the first place? Just say no :what: Its not like he had some obligation to do an interview there anyway so why do it.

They obviously thought at some point that it would be good look and play up his young gangster image. I blame both parties.

The article was cool but Pitchfork been on some bullshyt and I don't even read their shyt or tke it serious so I'm not sure why everyone else would (especially black people)

what violent white rappers are taken seriously? :bryan:

of course it sounds weird, but thats the point, the media consistently portrays Black people as ignorant and violent on such a large scale that we begin to accept it as "real", even though the majority of people living in the Black community are not gang members. so even if it is real, it only accounts for a small percentage of Black people, but this perception of Black folk being ignorant and violent affects all Black people. but white people are not portrayed as ignorant and violent, so we laugh at the idea, even though there are ignorant and violent white people in the world.

So Black violence is perceived as cool, whereas white violence is not cool. That is a problem.

it is racial based. they dont promote overly-violent white gangsta rappers. its not just urban fantasy, its also a white infatuation with Black rage, and this goes back a long way before pitchfork came on the scene, it is just very clearly present in pitchfork's presentation of hip-hop

There are 0 half way decent white gangsta rappers though.

yeah, but its not really cultivated by the music industry either. Black gangsta rappers have had a long history of industry support/showcasing, generating motivation for young Black folks to take up that role. Thats what Im saying. Im not saying they should be putting on white gangsta rappers or glorifying white violence, im saying that they cultivate the idea of Black rage and Black on Black violence for entertainment.

chief keef aint half way decent either but they had no problem hyping him up.

Point taken and I cannot disagree.

Though I don't know if its a fascination with black rage as much as it is an hyper inflated 'macho' aspect and violence that is more movie-esque compared to the average suburban/mid west city. White people love the wild west and the image of 'cowboys' for a similar reason.

You must not listen to rock. Only difference their musings are a lot more deranged.

Wait until K Koke drops.
