The only "African descent" population that carries this is African-Americans
@QamYasharahla
@Sambow
@Marvel
just something to think about.

Asians get this at a high rate too so this is debunked.

we aren't talking about Asians breh, I put it in there that they get it.
I wanna know why is there a difference between us & other people from African descent. Other Africans get Alpha...we get Beta which is in line with the Mediterranean area. Being that we came from the West coast of Africa & are of African descent as well...we should get Alpha Thalassemia just like everybody else from African descent.
Malaria isn't intense in America, just like in Asia and the Maghreb/Mediterranean/Middle East.
good pointAlpha thalassemias occur most often in persons from Southeast Asia, the Middle East, China, and in those of African descent

Not really because you can't look at modern demographics and try to strictly apply them to shyt 2000+ years ago after the obvious waves of human transition that area always goes through.![]()
Beta thalassemias occur most often in persons of Mediterranean origin. To a lesser extent, Chinese, other Asians, and African Americans can be affected.
Maybe it is in the blood?
@Marvel
what yall think breh
Don't bother. This thread is about to devolve into every logical fallacy in the book.shipping something from the west coast of Africa doesn't mean that, that something is native to west Africa.
good point
except that...Asians get Alpha too, African Americans do not
