North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
To me middle rual America is stuck in a time capsule. It represents anti progress, a pro stagnation.

But many politicians from these states/districts make policies that cater to them.

And contrary to popular believe, middle rual America isn't the "heart" of the nation. They don't innovate. They don't create wealth. Small towns are self serving and in manny cases, self righteous.

Shouldn't they be self containing?

I read somewhere that most federal funding goes to large cities and rural towns are left to rot. A lot of those towns were centered on industry and almost everyone in the town worked at one place. Once industry was outsourced they were either stuck, had to move or at least work away from home. They are definitely dependent on cities ...and they hate it.

It's not just that it was outsourced.. some industries simply became extinct. You can't expect a company that was formed in the 50's and 60's to still be around. The blame should fall on the people they elect... but those elected officials get votes by simply blaming other people.

Silicon Valley gets demonized at times but they created a new market. A new industry.

You would think small town America would welcome immigrants, legal and illegal as they can use that labor force to grow or stay relevant.

Once globalization took off, people should've made an effort to enhance their skillset.
