I've just seen a few reoccurrences where some journalist from the South or something like that would downplay Guru or put some sly shyt. So far most hip hop fans I know pay respect to him but it does seem like when Guru is called overrated its somebody from the South. So Idk, maybe I'm being stupid but what do Southern nikkas think of Guru?

He aight. You Yanks severely overrate the fukk outta him and Premo's bland sounding beats (he's got bangers but there's nothing extraordinary about his style if we being honest).

When I was in the army (which is filled with southern boys) I remember respect towards Gangstarr but not many knew their music like that.

And they were always acknowledged as a group and not as individuals unlike with NYC heads.

I only got into his music thru Jazzmatazz. I can still listen to a few joints. People refer to Cole's music as NyQuil but Guru was ketamine

When I met Preemo Guru was still alive and we both agreed that Jazzmatazz 2 was the best one of them all. That album should have one some sort of award....Guru proved he didnt need Preemo all over an album to show his artistic skill. Jazzmatazz 2 is a hip hop album that u can have playing in the background while reading a book.
