#dogset brehs... what's the old school way to house train a dog?

I inherited a dog by moving in with my gf last month. the dog is a little over 1 years but isn't potty trained fully. my gf has these pee pads all over the house and sometimes the dog pisses on the floor. the dog has even shat on the floor a few times.

I havent had a dog since I was a kid but what was the old school way to fix this? i remember something bout rubbing the nose of the dog near the waste or something like that. I tried google but all these new age fixes came up... talmbout give the dog a treat and a whole bunch of positive reinforcement.... yeah that shyt aint working. this dog is hard headed.

also, when did pee pads start being a thing? i don't remember these shyts when I was growing up. I told my girl that haven't a bunch of flat diapers around the crib aint wassup.​

Squirt gun... blast they ass if you catch them messing up. Doesn’t hurt them and sends a message.

Follow up with treats and encouragement when they do the right thing.

Look up crate training my dog learned in a week .2 weeks he was set gotta be strict on it tho. Trust me

Ya GF started a bad habit.

If you want to potty train.

Have to observe and watch for signs of needing to relief after feeding.

Just like a human, you need to go to the bathroom first thing in the morning.

Then you again about a hour or 2 after eating.

BTW, if you dont get the urine off the surface properly, the dog will still wind up urinating where the spot is.
