There's a very strong anti-Haitian sentiment in Dominican news and social media right now, and things can possibly get very violent in the near future. Right now the most popular politician in DR is Ramfis Trujillo, the grandson of Rafael Trujillo who massacred 40,000 Haitians back in the 1930s. People don't just want to round Haitians up and deport them, they want to inflict harm on Haitians now, and they are being dehumanized with almost nazi-esque propaganda. Basically anything that's negative and ugly in the country is the fault of Haitians, that's the modus operandi now, blame everything on the Haitians.

For example this Dominican conservative commentator compares Haitians to insects/termites.

Those of you who are Haitians on this site already all know who Rafael Trujillo is. This is the grandson Ramfis Trujillo.

Within seconds of the video you can see the sign for him to run in 2020 promoting him, already with the tight security with him in early 2018. Its cases like this that are examples of when years in advanced a country knows they want someone to be their leader. So most likely he is going in.

He has also advocated for build a wall to block out Haitians

Haiti - DR : Ramfis Trujillo candidate for the Dominican Presidency in 2020 ? - HaitiLibre.com : Haiti news 7/7

Ramfis Domínguez Trujillo (48), grandson of the dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo
, candidate for the presidency of the Dominican Republic in 2020 of the Institutional Democracy Party (PDI), Haiti - DR : The candidate of the PDI advocates the construction of a wall separating the island in two - HaitiLibre.com : Haiti news 7/7who advocates the expulsion of all illegal Haitians and the construction of a border wall, says he meets all the conditions required by the Dominican Constitution to be a candidate for the Presidency "In due course, all the necessary documentation will be known for that no one doubts that I am able to be a candidate."

The PDI candidate, a nationalist and populist party, has asked the "Junta Central Electoral" (JCE) the Central Electoral Council, that his candidacy for the Presidency be verified as soon as his documents are deposited and that the JCE endorses are right to apply for the presidency of the country.

Ramfis Trujillo believes that he has the support of the Dominican people, for the proposals for change presented by his Party and affirms that he intends in a participatory democracy "to promote equality for women", "defend national sovereignty first and foremost" , "Deport all Haitians in an irregular situation" and "build a wall to avoid future problems with Haiti".

Recall that Article 20 of the Dominican Constitution states that Dominicans who adopt another nationality, voluntarily or by their place of birth (Ramfis Trujillo was born in New York and American by birth), can aspire to the presidency and to the Dominican vice presidency, if they renounce the nationality acquired 10 years before the election and if they resided in the Dominican Republic during the 10 years preceding the election.
