Domino's demonstrated its ability to deliver food via a drone Thursday in New Zealand and plans to test actual deliveries to customers next month. "It doesn't add up to deliver a two kilogram package in a two-ton vehicle," said Scott Bush, a general manager for Domino's Pizza Enterprises, which is independent of the U.S. chain and operates in seven countries. "In Auckland, we have such massive traffic congestion it just makes sense to take to the airways."

A Domino's customer who requests a drone delivery will receive a notification when their delivery is approaching. After going outside and hitting a button on their smartphone, the drone will lower the food via a tether. Once the package is released, the drone pulls the tether back up and flies back to the Domino's store.

They are really starting to automate the workforce. Took a Uber the other day and the driver told me how they were testing self driving cars in Philadelphia and plan to implement in different markets. Feel sorry for those who are poor with no skillset. It is going to be rough for the next generation.

I'll believe it when I see it, I mean like stepping outside my house and seeing it, not no video.

Just wait until someone puts a mounted machine gun or high energy laser on a few of these things and flies them over a rough neighborhood and starts shooting. All controlled by remote and a self destruct/dead man's switch which will destroy the evidence at the right moment. Nothing good is going to come out of this in the long run imo. Call me old fashioned but the middle class is toast. The world is going to look like one giant brazil with the elites on top, a small professional class and then the rabble. All blue collar jobs and most grey collar and pink collar jobs will be GONE.

:ehh: surprisingly lucid argument

I dont see it as a complete end for delivery people tho...but now they will need only one or two guys for those big party/office/church group orders of 10 or more
