Back story please...
This thread. :mjlol:

I was helping my lil cousin do his report over springbreak about slavery. Teaching him the slave trade route and the conditions. He read it to his mother and she got upset talmbout "slavery is over with, move on". I told her I find that funny since she works at ups and consider it not being slavery. I left afterwards but I hope he gets a A

Well you opened the door for your cousin so hopefully he will do his own research. I think everyone should know of the atrocities this country has committed.

I hope the first part of the report is that slavery was not the origin of the African American. We were a beautiful collective people in all parts of the African continent that maintained a healthy and vibrant community. Not only will that make it a fuller story and take away that stupid "blacks started as slaves" crap that whites teach, but it will illuminate the black community as active historical agents and not faceless chattel in slavery

We didnt got that deep into it due to the limited time we both had. I just explained to him how the whites came and snatched up our ancestors and the conditions they was force to live in on the way to the lslands and south/north america. How they was displayed and sold to the highest bidder and how the family structure was destroy. He's only 11 so some parts I couldnt go into details about since he's supposed to be writing this himself.

Just make sure he knows that Africans were a vibrant and thriving community that always were collective people before racial capitalists snatched us form the land. Never let our story begin with slavery.

Then we beat it into their heads. My students didn't want to hear the horrible stories of Olaudah Equiano and nat Turner, but they heard it and wrote about it and it empowered them in the end. Never give up trying to teach, no matter how much they don't want to hear it.
