Don't get me wrong, I like beef for the fukkery...but can we admit its inherently ridiculous?

Rap beefs and disses gotta be the most overrated aspect of hip hop bar none.

Take Takeover, Hit em Up and ether out of the equation and the list of classic songs among diss tracks is underwhelming as fukk. most of the diss songs themselves aren't even hot tracks, the fukkery of it all just creates a short lived hype that is quickly forgotten. Beef is more about the drama than the actual music. The whole Control verse thing is a perfect example. nikkas was tired of that song before Sean's album even dropped.

The internet absolutely sapped whatever measure of enjoyment or entertainment out of "beefing" or battling in hip hop for me, outside of the initial listen, all the way to zero...the bullsh!t nonsensical, intellectually dishonest, and ultimately meaningless arguments that spring up around every rap skirmish pretty much ruin them all for me...shyt turns to the rap equivalent of cable news "debates" pretty much instantly...i was burned out on it damn near 10 years ago...all the talk about the "art" of it and highminded talk bout it being some kind of holy sacrament of hip hop is just sh!t that sounds cool...it's nothing but publicity stunts for rappers and pointless stan wars...with the notable exception of ACTUAL proper battles, like the battle leagues and all that

this whole debating, who could beat who, what would happen if they met in real life, picking sides has just made me so tired of this shyt, just completely unentertaining now

if guys could sit back and enjoy it, but with this social media age, i got friends texting me trying to understand what sparked a beef :what: why does it matter who gives a shyt :rudy:

nobody can enjoy shyt without acting like a sports talk radio analyst, and consider what happens in threads on the coli :mjlol:

You don't know your origins of hip hop..rap battles are an essential element of hip hop..hip hop is cocky..and when it gets too cocky we gotta battle..that's hip hop

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
They might as well have dance-offs :mjlol:

I mean...it SOUNDS hard...

but you gotta remember
...these dudes are writing verses
...editing verses...
recording...
and RE-recording verses...
THEN recording adlibs and dubs...
.then playing it for approval...
mixing...
...mastering...
finding the right sites to upload it to...
tweeting the link...

I mean...sure, the fukkery of another man being shytted on in such a complete audio form IS pretty entertaining...the notion of what it takes to get to this point is just pretty...odd.

I mean, its like the epitome of showing people who take rap WAY too seriously :heh:
:ohhh:

i thought i was the only one who thought this deeply about it

by the time you do all that shyt.. you could have called the person and had a real argument about whatever it was. you could have met up in some alley and threw the hands

instead you writing about killing they family and raping they girl and blowing the kids heads off.. going all into their life and history to make up jokes and point out inconsistencies

all to make a song shytting on somebody else and get some shine off it and tell the world

Don't get me wrong... I ENJOY THE LAUGHS AND ENTERTAINMENT...but I respect artists who are willing to be above the fray.

In other words this is thread is you lowkey :cape:'ing for Drake still for having his feelings hurt by Kendrick but not responding, then Hov g checking em and forcing em to lean back:mjlol:...Its cool bruh we forgot all about that:sas2:

Hell nah this shyt aint corny to embarrass a nikka on a large grand scale...now if you wanna say US as fans have made that shyt corny im willing to take some responsibility as a fan of hiphop....But with rap beef Its corny to pretend you don't care when you do care if you ask me:heh:...When battling is corny its corny, when it aint it aint, the fans at one time could be relied on to discuss it and make the distinction. But its all a popularity contest, and stan wars like somebody said now.

I can feel you on this

that's the worst part when it comes to diss tracks..stans and haters will talk about anything OTHER than the raps and you know they ain't really discussing the shyt fairly and from an objective point.

shyt becomes more about everything other than the raps

some rapper seen as corny could straight up body another rapper that is more respected, but because that rapper is viewed as corny or w.e and the other isn't he'd still lose in the eyes of the hip hop masses.

this whole debating, who could beat who, what would happen if they met in real life, picking sides has just made me so tired of this shyt, just completely unentertaining now

The sh!t this week is the perfect example...absolutely nothing of actual merit has happened since durk was eviscerated on wax monday night...and we got no less than like a dozen threads withs canons worth of posts about complete and utter bullsh!t...the actual "battle" is so far down the list of priorities it's hilarious...in reality it's some kind of bizarre circus that more closely resembles 8th grade female mean girls type gossip and politics mixed with some sh!t you'd expect to see on a hoodup.com board than any kind of hallowed hip hop tradition rooted in determining who's "the nicest mc"

*remembers back when diss tracks were hot singles instead of struggle freestyles over someone elses beat.

Stop copping pleas for that llama faced fakkit, you ain't slick nikka :heh:

Also there is a difference between beef and battling...even without the "forum" and rules, there is still a distinction between EMCEES clashing within the competitive environment of their actual craft in the general public space....and "beef".

I mean, you can break just about ANY activity down and make it sound ridiculous

ie. The Coli

anonymous strangers argue daily about musicians they've never met and topics that have little impact on their every day lives

while they argue, they strive to gain positive feedback on their opinions as well as earn fake cash that ultimately has no value in the real world

in spite of the fact that the opinions expressed have very little impact on their lives, they often take those opinions extremely serious, to the point in which you can tell they've been profoundly impacted emotionally(ie. threatening another person with physical violence)

they do all this while expressing their emotions through a series of smiley faces

Finally, despite the time and effort it takes to do all this, they make no money off of it whatsoever

So why do we do it? The same reason why rappers make diss records. It's fun and entertaining. But at least the rappers can actually get some money/notoriety out of it

I'm saying. People are basically saying they're against rap battles for the same reasons that can be applied to video games, or movies, or sports, or politics in the other sub forums on this board. Anything with two opposing sides is gonna be spun, over analyzed, and debated ad nauseum....which has nothing to do with the merits of the topic itself, it's just the nature of the internet.

My thing is if it actually leads to violence than its absurd and with rap battles it does lead to violence more so than video games or movies between people directly involved. If people actually brought on physical violence over any of the things you mentioned than yeah it would be equally violent. but it wouldn't be surprising if some lower associates of one of these rappers actually gets injured. That's why to me the Chiraq shyt is so stupid is cause nikkas really are losing their life over that shyt.
