50 cent - got 100m from vitamin water, $80k for club appearance, 2 200 million for straight to DVD movies, etc

cam'ron - owning the rap crew, show money
jay-z - part owner, rocawear, catalog, book deals, investments, etc

A lot of people have a lot of debt, but most of them are far from broke just not as rich as they portray to be. And that's not just in hiphop, IRL too. Banks own so many cats out there.

But as long as you can pay your taxes and make interest payments you're fine until your income slows down and later vanishes.

And it's the same across the board.

Now I don't know all or even many people in the industry, but I know a few mainly through school. A lot of big pop stars are owned by corporations, labels, management etc so the figures one sees in Forbes doesn't go in their pockets they get a fraction of that. Even if it's what they "earn".



I think a lot of rappers make a good living, cashing out a 0.5 to a million bucks is not bad when you party for free, lease cars and own your residence etc.I mean after all if you make over half a mill annually you're in the 1%.

harry b basically nailed it... as long as you have the skills & connects to make money then you're good... when you can't make money is the problem.. look at the average joe american couple that buys a home.. they might take a mortgage for $250k on that house.. they don't have $250k to buy that house outright, but they make money and can pay the note... they're good and everything is fine as long as they can continue to pay that note... they'll continue to live in that house, in that neighborhood, in that lifestyle... if something happens and they can no longer afford the note, then that's when there is an issue..... it's all about credit and future earnings, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah, blazeey splee, and on and on...

start with the ones that can no longer make money... i.e.: shows don't sell, cd's not selling, can't get an acting gig, endorsements, etc... once all the skills and connects are gone it's lights out....

Some of them really are broke though.

A lot of them are broke because once they have those debts called up then they don't have the funds on hands to come out the hole.

Their egos really lead them to believe they'll be on top for longer than they will be so when it comes crashing down, a lot of them don't have the umbrellas they thought they would have.

Yeah pretty much and regular people go through this too. They stop making what they were making years prior and things start to stack up due to their lifestyle and spending.

Difference being of course these guys continue on and on about their money whereas regular people don't (for the most part)

As many athletes that go broke u think it's a stretch for rappers to go broke. Especially now since the IRS has a hiphop division. Most of the n1kkas will end up broke and have their episodes of Unsung. And athletes make a lot more money and in most cases are a lil more educated due to actually having to go to school and they go broke bout 70% of the time. Rappers have no shot.
