50 Cent and Dr. Dre have a lawsuit on their hands after being accused jacking the beat for Fif’s early single, “P.I.M.P” off his classic debutGet Rich of Die Tryin’.
Producer Brandon Parrott is the man behind the lawsuit. According to TMZ, he claims he sent Dre some beats to check out back in 2001. Later, he alleges he got a call from the legendary producer’s people saying the good Doc had picked his instrumental titled “BAMBA” for 50’s album. However, the song’s production was only credited to D-12 member Denaun Porter in the album’s liner notes (the song is credited to both men on Wikipedia).
Parrott claims the people in Dre’s camp later told him it was a mistake and nobody knew the track would make the final version. So he signed a settlement off the strength of their explanation. Now, he claims he has new information that says otherwise. He alleges to have heard interviews where 50’s people make it clear they wanted to use the track the whole time. Parrott is seeking an undisclosed amount.
“P.I.M.P” was the third official single off the Queens rapper’s diamond certified solo debut. The track peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it dropped back in August of ’03. It later reached gold status selling over 500,000 copies. A remix was also released that featured Snoop Dogg, Lloyd Banks and Young Buck.
