Everyone involved with the Redskins is hoping Robert Griffin III can make it back for Week 1 of the 2013 NFL season. But the team -- and Griffin, after an Adidas ad featuring the phrase "all in for Week 1" caused him to backtrack -- has been careful to temper expectations about his recovery.
Dr. James Andrews has no such intention, apparently, telling Stephania Bell of ESPN that Griffin's recovery has been "superhuman."
"I've been real mum on talking too much about RG III. He wants his recovery to be fairly private, but I can tell you he's way ahead of schedule. His recovery has been unbelievable so far," Andrews said. "RG III is one those superhumans. First patient I ever had like that was Bo Jackson.
And recently I, of course, had Adrian Peterson, who is also superhuman.
"They have an unbelievable ability to recover, where as a normal human being may not be able to recover."
The good (and famous) doctor also said Griffin and NFL Draft prospect Marcus Lattimore, who've both suffered a pair of ACL injuries, have formed a bond during their recovery process.
It's not particularly groundbreaking news: Andrews already said once this offseason -- way back in January -- that he expected Griffin to make a full recovery in time for the 2013 season.
"We expect a full recovery and it is everybody's hope and belief that due to Robert's high motivation, he will be ready for the 2013 season," Andrews said in January.
Andrews also said that Griffin's been a beast when it comes to his rehabilitation. That's also not surprising.
And, frankly for me, neither is the "superhuman" comment. Griffin strikes me as a supremely motivated young man and is a physical freak. He returned from his first ACL injury (suffered in the third game of Baylor's 2009 season) to play the (Baylor) Bears opener in 2010.
That doesn't guarantee he'll be ready for the start of Week 1 in 2013 and I certainly hope Mike Shanahan follows up on his promise that Griffin won't return until he's 100 percent. But finding out that RG3's rehab is excelling shouldn't be shocking at all, regardless of how you think Andrews should be managing people's expectations.

RGIII the gawd shall return stronger than ever. All the cacs will continue to whine as the young crop of black QBs take over the league.

He's the one...
