Nowhere in that excerpt did they say the movie wasn’t canon. Both the manga and anime/movie timelines are independent one from another and both timelines are considered canon. This isn’t like typical anime where the anime follows the plot of the manga. The anime came 1st and manga had to adapt the anime stories. Prior too the anime going on hiatus the anime and manga went in different directions on the stories. The Goku Black arc and Tournament of Power are different adaptations from the anime to manga. Eventually this movie will be rewritten into the manga also like the events from Broly were mentioned in the Morro Arc.

I'm well aware that incomplete Cell was Toriyama's preference for a Perfect Cell, I just don't give a fukk. He was wrong, creators have shytty ideas they have to be talked out of all the time. You wouldn't have half the GOAT characters that exist in anime if nobody vetoed these dudes.

Perfect Cell was so popular because of his articulate and arrogant nature. It's because he wasn't a drooling idiot, like Cell Max.

The reason Kid Buu even worked was because Frieza and Cell were both articulate and arrogant af and he came around as the antithesis to that, a straight savage. Cells personality was even doper than Frieza to me in Z because Cell was with the shyts. Frieza was a petulant, Joffrey from GoT type of guy until recently in Super were hes learned to take his lumps and grow from it (still a GOAT level hater tho ). Perfect Cell was the most competitive of the original Big 3 Z villains and that made him stand out. Cell Max is ass and we already had a raging brute villain with DBS Broly being made canon I fukk with Frieza, Perfect Cell and Zamasu/Black because they werent idiots.

This is like typical anime where the anime follows the plot of the manga. The anime came 1st and manga had to adapt the anime stories. The second fukking sentence of that quote says point blank the new movie is a direct sequel to Broly, a canon work. Dumb mouthbreathers who aren't actual fans of the series and have nothing better to do with their life and free time than engaging in Goku/Vegeta stan wars on twitter want any reason to discredit or pretend this film isn't real, wouldn't be successful, and won't have implications for when the Super anime returns or when the manga reaches this point in the timeline. They can cry all they want about different characters getting a shine for the first time in decades, ain't changing the fact that it was the Gohan and Piccolo movie that had the biggest anime movie opening ever in the west, not the Gogeta and Broly one. Funny thing is if you go by this (incorrect) logic, things like Destroyer Toppo, Full Power Jiren, Super Saiyan Rage Trunks, etc. aren't canon either. I'm sure whoever wrote or agrees with that article wasn't trying to wish any of those forms out of existence/canon when they showed up in the anime...

Screenrant consistently misquotes Toriyama, Toyotaro, and everyone else involved with the series. There’s still people that believe there’s going to be a live action Dragonball Universe in Disney like the MCU because of them

Yeah they 1st started changing things around with the Goku Black Arc. I don’t remember exactly what happened but I think there was power up to Blue that didn’t happen in the anime.

Just because this is a sequel to a canon movie doesn't necessarily mean this has to be canon

before the movie was even released in Japan they already made it known this was a sequel to Broly. This isn’t news and both the manga and anime are canon. The quote wasn’t what the director but screenrant’s misinterpretation of him saying it’s a sequel to Broly. Again this isn’t like Z where the manga was canon and only some of the anime. Both are canon now.

This movie is not cannon until they mention it in the manga or it gets adapted to the anime. The Broly Movie is directly before the Moro arc in the manga. They mention Broly in the manga. Miss me with anything else.

Right now Beastiality Gohan, Carrot Top Piccolo and Mad Max Cell is Garlic JR status until otherwise mentioned in the manga.

Cell Max is supposed to be a drooling monster and the doofy looking Semi-Perfect Cell fits that the best

Y'alls expectations were misplaced - Cell Max isn't the " main villain" per say, just a monster that the real villain sicced on everybody and got out of hand.
