Fans heading to Drake’s Summer Sixteen tour will have to see the rapper from the audience, and the audience only.

An industry source tells PEOPLE that Drake has canceled all of his fan VIP packages for the tour, which kicks off on July 20 in Austin.

The packages sold for up to $1000, according to the source, with some including a photo opportunity. All purchasers have been informed that the sessions are now canceled due to “scheduling issues” and are in the process of being refunded.

Advertised online VIP packages from Ticketmaster promise a seat in the first five rows and a variety of merchandise, as well as meet and greets with Future, who is touring with Drake.

Drake is just the latest celebrity to back away from the fan one-on-one sessions, with Justin Bieber starting the trend earlier this year. Bieber announced in March that the meet and greets “drained” him and made him “unhappy.”

The news also follows the tragic death of Voice star Christina Grimmie, who was shot by a fan as she signed autographs at an Orlando venue following a performance.

Drake’s album Views was released in April, and features 20 songs, including hit single “One Dance.”

A rep for Drake had no comment.

Why not just have the fans go through metal detectors prior to the meet? Then again, I'm a proponent of metal detectors in schools and trains and everywhere else for that matter, cost shouldn't even be a concern for something like this, but of course it is and that's why it won't happen.

It's not just the guns, when u talking and greasy as Drake been talking and making as many enemies as Drakes been making...u gotta watch for everything!!

Someone could easily act like they want a pic (rightfully so if they just paid a rack to meet the nikka) then WHAM! steal off on that fool.

It's just not worth it. If ur a superstar just stay up in your ivory tower, don't come down to mingle with the common folks...not everyone is gonna have the best intentions. I think the idea of making people pay to meet u is lame anyways!

I think that's all the promotors and label doing

They get to charge crazy rates for the "meet & greets"

And it's just another obligation for the artist before he does the tour that he doesn't want
