Maybe you don't realize that artists make shyt off of digital sales. They always made shyt off their physical sales. And most of their money is made on the road doing shows.
A album is a way to keep the touring/road show going. The more successful an artist is the more money they will make off album sales etc. Someone will gift them a writing credit even though they didnt do shyt. A little more publishing. Maybe the label will throw them a token label where they can make a little more off of artists. But by in large the distributors are the one making the real $$$$$$$$$. Gigantic artists like Jay-Z will negotiate killer distribution deals.
But the reality is that 98% of the industry is getting fukked.
