Drew Brees 'seriously' wants to play until he's 45. Can he?

Favre had arguably his best season at age 40.

45 is too late...

Brees is 35, he can definitely play another 5 years but after that it's murky.

You can be in good shape at 45 and you can be muscular at 45. Most pro-body builders are older, as weight lifting/bodybuilding is mainly a non-contact/non-impact sport.
The issue is not receiving an injury. That's what took Favre out. One hard sack and its 'permanent' game over.
The other is surviving a concussion to the head. You can only take so many before you become a functional vegetable.

It's most certainly within the realm of possibility. Outside of that shoulder injury, he's never been hurt. As others have said you can't hit QBs anymore. His game isn't based on being athletic. In theory he could stand back there and toss is around another 10 years. The only thing that could stop him would be a big time injury, and the chances of that get smaller and smaller each year.
