Both songs were Billboard #1 in 2004. I wasn't digging Snoop talking about were the blue rag belongs on a song that had the ears of the whole country.

You think promoting gang culture like its cool on a major platform is ok?

I don't see the problem when he's done it his entire career. Plus they censor out "crip" in the song. Yes, I know you can bypass that and get the uncensored version. But that also means you can get his other uncensored songs. Why should that song be singled out?

What part of Billboard #1 didn't you understand? It's one thing to be secluded to the hip hop crowd but Billboard #1 is the pop crowd. That means promoting gang culture is now in the door of the pop crowd and that's not a good thing.
And Snoop was not screaming Crip his entire career, he had just recently started doing that when that song cane out.

1. Snoop has mentioned sets and other gang related shyt starting with his first album. 2. You think he knew the song would go #1 on the charts?

1) When Snoop first came out Hip Hop was not on the mainstream level like it would be in 2004. R&B was still the bigger Black genre when Snoop first came out. Snoop came out the same year Ice T was being painted as a negative influence in contrast to decades later when Ice T would be a household name in Hollywood with a rep that is a 180 from his "Cop Killer days." Also....Snoop was only repping "neighborhoods" when he first came out not "Crip." Saying neighborhoods is masked in a way where those who aren't familiar can't catch it. Straight up saying "Crip" is a whole different ball game.

2. That song is fire. I'm sure once the song was mixed mastered and set up to be the first single, he had an idea that the song, which is him and the Neptunes, 2 very big names in Hip Hop, would atleast be heard on major Hip Hop platforms. He knew MTV and BET would play the video. Lets not take away from the reality that Snoop knew that song was going to go out in the public when he promoted that very direct line about what a specific gang does.

Let me also add Fat Joe don't get a pass either. In the 80's there was this civil war in the Black community in regards to Black people calling themselves the N word and by 2004 a Puerto Rican had a Billboard #1 song where he was saying the N word over and over again while a Black sister just spits a rhyme after him. Cypress Hill with the songs "Hand On The Pump" and "Insane In The Brain" and them saying the N word in the 90's was one thing but Lean Back being Billboard #1 in 2004 was a different monster.
