A California Highway Patrol officer rescued an allegedly intoxicated driver who appeared to be passed out in the driver’s seat while on a busy San Diego area freeway, according to a report.

The woman was stopped in the middle of the northbound 805 with cars speeding by early Friday when a passerby ran to the vehicle and tried to awaken her, CNN affiliate KGTV reported.

He tapped on the window and yelled, “Wake up,” but the woman remained unresponsive, video obtained by the television station showed.

A short time later, California Highway Patrol Officer Sergio Flores arrived at the scene and attempted to get her attention by tapping on the driver-side window with his flashlight, according to KGTV.

Suddenly, the black Chrysler Sebring started rolling on the freeway as her foot came off the brake. Flores ran around to the passenger side and then smashed the window with his flashlight.

“Stop your car, you’re going to crash,” he yelled at the woman.

Finally, Flores was able to throw open the door and put the car into park just as the woman appeared to awaken.

The driver, identified as 25-year-old Amber Dlaine McKinney Morgan, was then moved to a safe location off the roadway before being arrested on suspicion of DUI, KGTV reported.
