I’ve learned from a reliable source that DTTX of Lighter Shade of Brown has passed away. This is unconfirmed, but information comes from multiple highly reliable sources.

UPDATED: One source tells me DTTX is currently in a coma and “expected to pass away anytime.”

Another source tells me DTTX is on life-support and his mother is en-route to “say goodbye” and “pull the switch” at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas.

We’re continuing to get the details and will keep you update via this page as information comes in.

Bobby Ramirez, who was known by most as DTTX (an acronym for “Don’t Try to Zerox”) was one half of the mega-successful Southern California based hip-hop group, Lighter Shade of Brown.

Lighter Shade of Brown, or LSOB for short, was one of the handful Latin hip-hop artists to breakthrough and have mainstream success in the early 90s. Along with artists like Kid Frost and Mellow Man Ace, LSOB broke barriers and brought Latin Hip-Hop to the mainstream, with hits like “On a Sunday Afternoon,” “Latin Active,” “Homies” and “Hey DJ.”

This news is especially hard on me. I’ve been a die-hard LSOB fan since I was 14, when they first came on the scene. I still have that first cassette single of “Sunday Afternoon.”

Just a few years later I had the pleasure of meeting DTTX and ODM for the first time at a concert that our radio station produced, and have since hosted many other concert and events with the group, including a show here in San Diego at Club 625 in January.

Their music is absolutely phenomenal and different than anything else out there. The group was a special part of my life, and always will be. I know I’m not alone.
