This should’ve been handled in private.
Correct, it’s infuriating. She’s not sending that heat at Joe Manchin the person responsible for Neera Tandin not being approved. It’s like being worried about air pollution when ur standing in a god damn forest fire and it helps literally no one

This unhealthy obsession with diversity quotas is going to backfire on the dems.

We know white voters hate hearing about it. And now the various minorities in the Dem coalition will be at each other's throats over getting enough representation.

I really wish people cared more about policy than the ethnic background of the people making it.
This.

Establishment dems have been pushing this shyt for at least 30 years too. They repeatedly make a huge deal out of the ethnic background of a few appointments ("The first this! The first that!") so that we'll ignore that 90% of the time they're cherry-picking the people who will push the exact same rich liberal policies as the rich white people who filled those positions before them.

The wealthy establishment coalition who doesn't give a shyt about actual poor black folk is gonna run up in here :cape: for that shyt too.

Short term pain but it's worth it IMO. Probably could be handled better admittedly but African-Americans are doing/have been doing the same thing before Biden was even elected.

Dems already are winning the Asian vote but with additional representation & Trump's racism, I think our #s can improve. I'm not opposed to putting more chips on a growing demographic that is being vilified by the other side. They make up 6.5% of the US population but less than 3% of Congress.

I don't know if Cabinet positions will make a huge difference short term, but it does have the potential to change the trajectory of those selected and improves their odds of power politically moving forward.
African American have done it and should have done it more. And deserve more executive orders specific to us and more AA cabinet positions based on our history, our work and our winning these cacs the elections....

These other groups think they can ride that bandwagon while never really being in the fight and not really making a dent with voting

:hubie:I was slightly annoyed with Biden and his team for this obsession they had with this. Pick who you want, but we don’t need to shout from the rafters that this is the 1st yada yada yada. They were overdoing it with the announcements.

So she's not gonna vote for white people? How is that a concern or a threat (to me)?
The direct effects are meaningless. The indirect effects, where it creates division on useless bullshyt, turns off undecided voters, and shifts focus from policy to identify politics, is a big time fukk-up that doesn't help us at all.

Record Asian American turnout helped Biden win Georgia. Can it help flip the Senate?

Indeed

The major stupid thing is these are all the same type of people. They think the same and have the same backgrounds. Worked at the same thinktanks, etc. It’s stupid representation shyt that offers nothing of substance.

Yeah I mean the problem is that they are trumpeting the diversity and not effectively linking it to good policy that will be put into place because of it. Maybe better policy does happen because of it but they arent really articulating that as well and are instead acting proud of themselves for being inclusive. That's all fine and good but I doubt that that's going to sway support that they are seeking to garner. It may reinforce campaign promises which is helpful but that's pretty much where it ends in terms of perception to the average american that tends to merely takes a cursory glance at the news headlines from time to time

Above the fray.
Even Tammy Duckworth was forced to lean back.

2 Asian American senators back off threat to oppose Biden nominees after White House agrees to add senior AAPI adviser

(CNN)Sens. Tammy Duckworth and Mazie Hirono on Tuesday backed off their threat to vote against any of President Joe Biden's nominees who aren't minorities, after going public with their anger that the Cabinet lacks Asian Americans, and Duckworth earlier saying she felt insulted by the White House's attempts to brush off her concerns.

The move came after a tense Monday exchange between Duckworth and a top Biden aide, followed by a series of conversations Tuesday and ultimately a decision by the White House to install a senior-level aide responsive to a community that has suffered an uptick in violent and racist attacks since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

Seeking to cool tensions with the Illinois Democrat and Hirono -- a Hawaii Democrat -- the White House agreed to add a senior Asian American and Pacific Islander liaison and pledge to elevate diverse voices to the highest levels of government.

"The President has made it clear that his Administration will reflect the diversity of the country," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said in a statement. "That has always been, and remains our goal. The White House will add a senior level Asian American Pacific Islander liaison, who will ensure the community's voice is further represented and heard."

Basically, she wasted her power play. In her mind she probably think she can do something like this again, but that's not how it works.

That's why you can't aim low and go all in on any random thing. You think you bossing up cause of course they will do it. But what you really doing is begging for crumbs.

Look like her power is working out just fine:sas2:
White House announces new actions to address violence against Asian Americans
Under the actions announced Tuesday, the Department of Health and Human Services will also allocate $49.5 million from the American Rescue Plan for "community based, culturally specific services and programs," which will aid AAPI survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, who may face additional hurdles to receiving aid, such as language barriers.
