Knicks owner James Dolan wanted to trade Iman Shumpert, says ESPN's Stephen A. Smith - NY Daily News

Iman Shumpert appears to be a budding young star for the Knicks. And apparently owner James Dolan wanted to ship him out of town to teach him a lesson, according to ESPN's Stephen A. Smith.

Smith told Dwight Howard that Knicks owner James Dolan wanted to trade the third-year guard, because Shumpert didn't want to work out in the NBA Summer League while chit-chatting before a recent interview.

In a special satellite feed unearthed by Deadspin.com, Smith is chatting with Howard before their interview about the center signing with the Rockets.

The two are talking hoops and Shumpert's name comes up as being the one Knicks player under 27 years old last season. Smith says with surprise about the 11 second mark: "And by the way, Dolan was ready to trade (Shumpert) because he didn't want to work out in the summer league. Dolan's talking about trading him. I said 'Trade who? You better hold on to that boy! You better not lose Iman Shumpert. That boy can play!'"

Howard's reaction is priceless.

"He can come here," Howard says of Shumpert.

"Oh, that would be nice," Smith responds.

"He can come here. James can play the 1, 2 or 3," Howard says.

LOL @ this. This shyt seems silly even though I'm sure it's true.

LOL @ "Trade who? That boy can play!" Stephen A. is always referring to somebody as "boy".
