alot of the bay slang isn't as popular as bay area cats want to believe.
I'll say this tho. I moreso look at the bay as a place where they come up with alot of rough-draft ideas that are taken & done better by people from other parts of cali, the south & Midwest. even the east coast to a degree(playa hater)
with that said, I understand why bay area dudes are so bitter and try to take credit for everything, but theyre too delusional at times.

The word "hella" is probably the most used slang in the country and its been around for decades. Most slang from other regions get played out within a year. Bay slang is permanent. The superman smiley on this site comes from Bay slang

They don't get recognition for slang because a national artist from elsewhere will introduce/popularize Bay slang and people won't know the local artist that made the phrase buzz.
Oakland is like DC in a way, it's like a separate region unto itself.
