Here's the thing. I know most of you want to sell beats to artist but make sure you are ready. Don't waste the artist time or your own if your level of production isn't up to industry standard. Keep in mind that some of the e-mail addresses listed no longer work and in some cases the artist inbox is full due to the storage amount it can hold. It's first come first serve so check the link to the first site daily.

Those e-mail addresses change real quick. That Sarah J e-mail has already changed. This is some advice for sending beats when I'd send them out for producers that I got from an A&R.

Only send 3 tracks- your best 3 unless they indicate what type they want
Label your tracks- be professional
Send the actual beat with no tags as a WAV file, when they pass it along the artists don't want to wait if they like it
E-mail them once a day if you don't get responses, they will tell you to piss off if you get annoying
Full beats too, no snippets.

I disagree. To often people mention what the prefer and somehow that gets passed off as industry standard. Many of the request specifically ask for mp3's and I don't get that no tags thing. No way would I send an untagged beat out to the industry.

I might have it mixed up on the mp3 thing...idk even know how tags really work
:yeshrug:

are you able to take it out when you mix it? I always thought producers tagged their shyt.

My bad, i didn't mean to say no tags...i meant to write no excessive tags. I thought it was always necessary to tag at the beginning at some point.

If any of you know these artists "offline" you will notice alot of these websites shopping for artists for beats, Yet these aritsts projects have no budget and are not underway. Many a time I have asked an artist "i saw on xyz track dealing website" that you're lookin for beats for "insert project name here" and i get hit with the :sadcam:

From personal experience this is a recipe for disaster sorry, I've watched artists I've worked with get jerked because they sent a beat with no tags in full, only for them to be told nah, months later, oh look their beat is on so and so's album.

Also get your music licenses/copyrighting in order.

The tag is like a watermark on a picture. It should be there in a inconspicuous manner to show who the item belongs to. It's good to tag the track throughout because someone could cut out the tag if it's just at the beginning and rebuild the track with the untagged portion. It wouldn't take much of an untagged portion that could be looped to make a new track.

ive been trying to deal with people in the industry (people guys are talking about in the hip hop forum) and they all trying for the no tag thing. The rates some of these guys are giving and all that is ridiculous. no way to trust anything you made with them imo.

Speak on it. There are artist trying to pressure producers to send them beats untagged? How much are they offering to pay for beats? I got a response back from an A+R but I think that they were trying to offer me their service rather than place beats for artist which is what they solicited for. It seems like a conflict of interest to me.

its the lil things tehy trying. i hit up gunplay for a verse. his manager and i were talking for like a half hr on the phone. first, they wanted 7 g's for 16 bars. i was like wtf... na you guys aint even buzzin like that for me to waste 7 g's. then she lowered it down to 3.5 said we needed to do it asap cause hes going to jail she'll email contract in the morning. my dude investing in me didnt wanna pay that at all.. so we kept it moving

next night i got in contact with stalleys manager. who quoted me at 15g's to which i LOL'd and said thanks no thanks. he said thereason its so high is cause MMG wouldnt clear it without a fee, which make sme think the gunplay sitch was them tryna rip me

what it seems like to me, all these rappers have so many peoppe working for them, theyll steal and rob just to say they paid someone. all those marketing and promotional people tryna get paid too. as a producer its hard to set ya self up through these little deals w/ so much competition. MONEY TALKS

another example, i was working with some rapper through fred the godsons blokwork camp. dude musta had liek 20 of my beats, he demo'd one out and said he needed the tagless version that the crew wanted that song. LSS we aints ending no tagless shyts out w/o paper to go with it, he was saying we woulda had to do that to get on and shyt aka they stealing. i dont expect any different tho from these guys who created their movements, tehy wanna get paid for us to join the show. neve rheard from that guy again, ima call his ass thoa nd see whats up (be careful most people in the game are LYING)

its like the regular "u like this beat, the buy it" system is dead. these people only doing tracks for paper. its like a crap shoot sending beats in to an AnR to pick from hundreds. that aint working for me i want to control my own movement. this even goes for mixing as ive hit up guys who mix and they want major bread and im not even there (vs me going to a major studio in nyc and being hands on smh). i been contacting people but very few have been forthecoming. the most so was 4th disciple whos number i have but im waiting on having my business in order through trademarking/llc and shyt. that AnR wants money from you so he'll even look at ya beats. it is a conflict of intrest. we'd all be better off starting our own movement here and pooling our money then each of us throwing thousands away for people to check shyt. i aint with that system, its not hip hop to me

thats the best way. just make sure everyone is on it 100% cause in my experience, everyones down until the time comes. luckily for me my peoplei do it with are my closest friends

i got 6 producers and a photographer/video guy, but they are all the "i just wanna make music type" think they wont be able to break in, which is why im going at the business right now myself tryna connect all the dots for us. wish i could find someone reliable who would mix and master but people wanna be paid and the only money im puttin down is for promotion at the moment. a lil promotion will go a long way when your trying to market yourself. remember PERCEPTION IS REALITY and everything associated with yoru brand will be very important.
