one of the most overlooked and under-appreciated wrestlers of all time.

no one had ever seen a dude like him before. he was paul wight before there paul wight. a super heavyweight that was actually quick on his feet. (vader wasn't known to most wwf fans at that time, plus quake was a lot bigger than vader too)

one of the most legit, one of the most feared wrestlers of his day. nobody wanted it with this dude. strong enough to go toe to toe with hogan and warrior. the one dude in jimmy hart's camp you had no choice but to acknowledge and respect.

nothing spelled imminent danger more than when quake got to hoppin up and down and that ring started to shake. and although i rarely ever see it brought up, i would happily argue that his finisher was top ten elite GOAT status. before there was yoko's bazai drop, there was earthquake's splash. dude put hogan out of commission for a whole summer and flat out destroyed jim duggan. plus he had that MEAN ASS elbow drop he would plant on dudes back while they laid on their stomach. a go-to signature move of his.

after a pretty decent singles run, he would then form the natural disasters... again one of the most legit tag teams of their day. they were not only tag team champions, but actually BEAT the legion of doom in their prime (by count out).

lastly, earthquake played a pivotal role in getting yokozuna over as an even greater monster when the two titans clashed in the 1993 royal rumble... where yoko BODIED quake and eliminated him single handedly. i remember seeing that as a kid and it blew my mind because up until that point no one seemed bigger and badder than quake... but yoko came through and just flat out crushed the buildings.

salute to john tenta
salute to earthquake

well let me ask you something, do you consider the figure-4 an all time GOAT finisher because of the hold itself or because it's associated with ric flair and what he did with it?

let me ask you this. why doesn't quake's finisher rank up there for you?

it was one of the most devastating moves of it's time, opponents sold it like crazy, plus it had crazy presentation and impact. not only that but it fit his character and fit his gimmick. EASILY one of the best finishers of all time imo.

pretty much.

i mean if we're gonna frame the argument under that train of thought we might as well add the hogan leg drop on there too.

to me a great finisher is one that

a) is unique from most traditional wrestling moves
b) appears devastating
c) a reflection of the wrestler using it

the earthquake splash was all of those things. it checked all 3 boxes.
