GAME NOTES
• Spartans senior forward Branden Dawson needs two more points to join Michigan State's 1,000-point club. He would become the 46th player in program history to accomplish the feat. "Scoring 1,000 points means a lot," Dawson said Monday. "That's one of the reasons I came back, to complete some goals." Spartans junior guard Bryn Forbes also reached the plateau Sunday against Oakland, but 905 of his points came in his two seasons at Cleveland State.
• Freshman Javon Bess, who has missed the entire season so far with a broken foot, is expected to make his Michigan State debut Wednesday. The game is expected to be the first this season that every eligible scholarship player plays for the Spartans. Michigan State has missed 17 man games due to injury or illness this year: 10 from Bess, six from Alvin Ellis and one from Dawson.
• Michigan State holds a 28-3 advantage in the series history and has won the last six. Only one of those three losses has come in East Lansing. Eastern Michigan's last win over Michigan State came 17 years ago to the day.
• EMU ranks among the top teams in the country in scoring defense (17th, 55.9 points per game) and field goal percentage defense (15th, .356). In Michigan State's last eight games, since losing to Duke in its second game of the season, the Spartans are holding opponents to 58.8 points per game and a .357 shooting percentage.
• Eastern Michigan coach Rob Murphy spent three years as the head coach at Detroit Crockett, where he coached former Michigan State player Maurice Ager. The two won a Class B state championship in 2001.
