Ok got some questions. My mom is very frugal but has a lot of money saved up because of that. She was a teacher for 30+ years and my dad has financial problems and has very little money and behind in his bills very badly...lots of medical bills and debt need to be paid. Oh and my mom made more money than my dad and she was just a teacher....so that tells u a lot. This is just to explain the dynamic of my immediate family.

Anyway I'm gonna be honest. Moms is super cheap. I have some of my mom and dad in me. I can be cheap but sometimes I like to eat good quality and fresh food.

Yesterday I was cleaning my parents frige and my mom still eating food from thanksgiving that we cooked and plates people she knows gave her. I told her that food 2 weeks old should be thrown away and i just am concerned about her getting sick. My moms stomach can handle way more than mine. I personally think after a week that food should be discarded. I really hate wasting food cuz folks out here are hungry. She got mad at me for wanting to throw away that small amout of mac and cheese and greens away that's 2 weeks old. She even has shyt that's almost 3 weeks old. She told me that a reason why my dad and myself don't have much is because we wasteful. Now mind u I will eat leftovers and my dad doesn't eat much leftovers. I just like to eat shyt within a week. I got friends and associates who don't eat leftovers at all. My mom is also hard nosed and strong willed and some said she comes off as controlling and overbearing. Of course with her being super frugal...she has an issue with hoarding and keeping too much shyt.

I am actually embarrassed to type this and wouldn't tell my friends and other family what she does.

I wanna know am I unreasonable for wanting to throw that old food away and trying to get moms to stop being a pack rat?

She has been single most of my life but peep mine is some what worse I feel. She doesn't care about the expiration date on shyt and I go in the fridge and see shyt that has been in there for years literally. I'm really worried about her and she has Cancer on top of that

After like 4-5 days that Thanksgiving food should have been gone. And I think even 4-5 days is pushing it, but that's about when the food starts looking funny

Bruh yo my mom doesn't care about expiration dates either. She will even use expired eggs and drink expired juice and sodas. Same here with shyt expired in her cabinet back last decade....I gotta secretly throw away. She gets mad at me but I'm just concerned about her health.

Sorry to hear about ur mom dealing with cancer.

Bruh I agree...its embarrassing when i see my friends and frat bros pick up on what she does at social functions. Its a lot. She even takes sugar packets and other shyt. I love my mom and she has helped me in life when I dealt with some bad shyt but what she does is embarrassing.

Bruh my mom is a hoarder and she doesn't wanna throw away anything. She even reuses paper plates, aluminum foil and plastic wrap.

You might wanna get her some help before it gets even more out of control. To be honest I don't even want to imagine what her house looks like :scust:

She thinks she needs no help and she helped me financially before....of course I had to,eventually pay her back. She even had me sign a contract with a payment plan. She sold my dad a car and had him sign a contract with a payment schedule. I think something happened to her in her past or maybe she heard of so many stories where people been used so she don't wanna be in that position.

The home isnt nasty at all but it has too much shyt in it.

Yep that's hoarding, and most don't think they need help. Intervene if necessary and point out that eating weeks old shyt isn't healthy and the wrong spoiled food can have her checking into a hospice really quick.

I tell her that but she doesn't take it in and call me wasteful. Its frustrating at times...

i can relate
you shouldnt feel embarrassed, this is the coli after all, a place where you can speak your mind

id say health wise it might not be the best to eat old food, isn't that how people get worms?

my mother one day mistakenly passed me some out of date pasta, i saw the mold on it and flipped out but didn't tell her cause she didnt know but still, that shyt was in her fridge for a good while, make sure your mother not eating off food breh.
