Around 1995 my interest for pro wrestling was starting to wane. The WWF wasn't hitting on cylinders, The Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania 11 disasters turned me off for a long minute. WCW as well was going through more of the same with Hogan and his pals dominating everything and everybody with the same repetitive shtick from the 80s. It wasn't until one night where I was just flipping through channels and discovered ECW on live satellite. All it took was one program and I became a FAN forever.

What drew me was the fact that there were wrestlers that I'd been wondering what happened too and I happened to be a fan of were there(2 Cold Scorpio, Ron Simmons, Cactus Jack, Terry Funk). I also notice other familiar faces like Shane Douglas(from WCW at the time) and others. The presentation was something that I've never seen before from a wrestling company, It looked like the 90's version of Jim Crockett Promotions. What sold me to ECW was how they were able to incorporate REALISM into their storylines.

Whereas the big Two focused on nothing but giants, ECW gave the Cruiser-weights, the smaller wrestlers a chance to put on clinics and they often stole the show. Guys like Jericho, Rey Mysterio, Benoit, Eddie, Malenko, Juvitud, and many others were introduced into the mix.

The Promos which were shoots at WWF and WCW at the time were something I NEVER seen before(From Cactus Jack, Steve Austin, Brian Pillman,)

Entrances were from Official licensed music(Never seen that before either) New Jack whooping people asses to Natural Born Killaz throughout his matches, The Sandman coming out to Metallica, Dreamer coming out to Alice and Chains. It was VERY original.

The VIOLENCE was on some next level shyt that I've seen from both WCW and WWF at the time, I've never seen women get that work to that degree and even getting thrown through tables themselves. I've never seen wrestlers get powerbombed through tables before ECW.

The Feuds themselves were legendary. That standoff between Sabu and Taz for the first time was:ohmy:

You had some bad ass heels doing DESPICABLE things like Shane Douglas yanking Pitbull Two's Halo, The Dudley's beating up the Eliminators and New Jack in the streets during promos, Raven breaking up the Sandman's family, RVD selling out to Jerry Lawler, The Dudley'z Breaking Bulah's neck:wow:

And the fans were probably one of the craziest bunch of wrestling fans I ever seen. Going to a ECW show in 99, I felt the energy throughout. It was like a Rock show! We had a blast that night.

What are some of your fav ECW moments?

Agree with pretty much all of this. ECW rejuvenated my interest in wrestling at a time it was starting to drop a little bit. I also discovered it by accident on late night satellite TV.

Original as hell and really creative shyt. The first few episodes I ever watched I couldn't take my eyes off the screen because you had no idea what was coming next. Matches would just start out of the blue sometimes with no kind of announcements or introductions; you'd see a couple dudes beefin' and suddenly a ref appears and it's a match. :russ:

I was a big fan of the show-closing promos they'd always do, usually set to music. Cactus Jack and Raven cut some of the best promos EVER back then. :wow:

What about Taz manifesting into the Suplex machine? This muthafukker use to be a BEAST. He had me really convinced he was bout that life. The way he use to literally drop nikkas on their heads with his suplexes was something I never seen in my life

I hate what happened to Taz man. Damn he was ferocious.

I remember when he hit Sabu with the dragon suplex through the table in the corner and they said Sabu broke his neck and I really believed that shyt.

The Dreamer/Raven Feud.. Raven manifesting from that bullshyt Johnny Polo to some anti social but intelligent and disturbed ultraviolet individual was one of the greatest character shifts ever.

Totally agree.
It took me a couple months before I even realized Raven was the former Johnny Polo. And when I finally clued in, I was like :whoa:.

Couldn't believe it.

still hate that it was damn near impossible to get those ECW TV episodes here so I didn't get to see ECW in it's glory.

I've since gotten to see it straight thru as I have just about all of their televised shows and PPV's on my computer. Some of the promos that came out of that little company STILL hold up extremely well. Taz showed up about 8 years too soon, had his character been exactly as it was in 97-99 in say 2005 with the MMA explosion dude woulda been a license to print money IMO, i'd have been repping that angry midget the way I do Sting if we'd had a TSC then

Heyman is a genius for real.
