How Ed O'Bannon's Lawsuit Would Dismantle The NCAA

For all you non-reading niqqas, the pertinent is bolded....

This storm is also known as O’Bannon v. NCAA. It’s an antitrust lawsuit filed in 2009 by former UCLA All-American basketball player Ed O’Bannon and a handful of other ex-college athletes, who don’t think the NCAA should be profiting from their names and images without sharing the royalty payments.

In their latest filing, O’Bannon’s lawyers argue that the case deserves class-action status. If their request is granted, the NCAA would be liable for claims brought not just by the plaintiffs but also by all former athletes. Anyone who has ever played a Division I college sport would instantly be suing for damages for every instance in which his or her image was used in a video game, highlight reel, broadcast or rebroadcast.

That could get pretty expensive for the NCAA. But if the case were just about a few billion dollars, the association would have settled by now. It hasn’t because O’Bannon and his lawyers are also asking for something else: They want all current and future college athletes to be able to make licensing deals of their own. It’s short yardage from there to the NCAA’s doomsday scenario: schools bidding for the services of student-athletes.

I agree with O Bannon. These Universities make millions off student athletes and the athletes get peanuts compared to the NCAA. Granted student athletes get room and board and a small stpend. But compare that to the millions of dollars the NCAA profits from television revenue and merchandise , that room & board is nothin.

Especially athletes (big name college guys) Tebow, Reggie Bush, Teo, AP etc. Their respective universities were sellin their jerseys like crazy and those dudes didn't get anything for the sales.

The NCAA keeps trying to convince us that college sports is amature competition :comeon:
But we all know that its not the case

Anything to destroy college athletics current state is a good idea to me. Too many fukking teams and they all (100%) cheat yet they all point fingers and refuse to pay these poor kids.

I wish all kids would do what Brandon Jennings did.

:salute: all they do is pimp these kids anyways. let them get 2.0's then throw them away after they graduate or get injured

He actually has a lot of support and apparently has a decent shot of winning, this story been bubbling for years now, he's not going away :blessed:

Get em Ed, get these muthafukkas Ed, get em.

1. NCAA got more lawyer money.
2. Send out a check for every image used in a broadcast? That means they would get a check for local newscast coverage. Don't see that happening. That would kill off smaller sports coverage.

IMO this would hurt sports more than it'd help em :manny:

:what: they dont mean local newscasts. but when the ncaa shows bryce drews buzzer beater constantly on a commercial spot during the ncaa tourney, then he should be entitled for something
