I studied art history all the way up through college. Never a peep about her name or image of her face seen.

I didn't know anything about her until I visited Rome 2 years ago when a White friend told me I was so glad when Google did a feature yesterday and gave her justice.

Shame that she was indirectly forced to sculpt figures with Eurocac features to be accepted as a true artist...so were the times, I guess.

Another female African-American sculptor is Agustus Savage, who sculpted African subjects, but later during the Harlem Renaissance
