Education Usually Improves Health. But Racism Sabotages Benefits For Black Men

More education typically leads to better health, yet Black men in the U.S. are not getting the same benefit as other groups, research suggests.

The reasons for the gap are vexing, experts say, but may provide an important window into unique challenges Black men face as they try to gain not only good health but also equal footing in the U.S.

Generally, higher education means better paying jobs and health insurance, healthier behaviors and longer lives. This is true across nearly all demographic groups. And studies show life expectancy is higher for Black men with a college degree or higher, compared with those who have not finished high school.

But the increase is not as big as it is for whites. This comes on top of the many health obstacles Black men already face. They are more likely to die from chronic illnesses like cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer than white men, and their average life expectancy is lower. Experts point to a variety of factors that might play a role, but many say the most pervasive is racism.

Researchers note that while Black men and women face many of the same challenges, Black women generally have a longer life expectancy than Black men. (They also point out that for now it is difficult to draw conclusions about Hispanic people because of a lack of studies on these issues.) As a result, many experts say that these health problems stem from a persistent devaluation of Black men in U.S. society.

Personally I'm getting tired of this narrative. :camby:It does nothing but make black men look like sheep always needing someone else's help. Our problems today are lack of wealth, entertaining a BS culture, and not prioritizing education. I see parents at football games and practices for kids all the time. Then I talk to teachers who say the parent-teacher relationship isn't there. At the end of the day people are going to entertain the we need white people help but won't admit it openly.

Idk why you're unsure, you literally have the evidence right in front of you....
Yup, just got off the phone with this racist CAC bytch recruiter from South Carolina.

Fukking bytch was trying to dismiss me and talk that “you aren’t qualified” “did you even graduate” “your experience is lacking” bullshyt.

I’m sure the cave beast took the call to shyt on a black man. Why the fukk would you even call me to TELL ME that I’m unqualified. Bytch was snappy as hell too, I KNEW what it was as soon as the fukking Neanderthal said they were in South Carolina. Kindly told her to delete my resume and lose my number.

This is the shyt we have to go through.

Just got off another call too where this other CAC was low key talking spicy about my experience as well. Trying to grill me. Handled that shyt tho.

Two racist gatekeepers in ONE DAY.

This is the shyt we have to go through.

This is why I it pays to live in the right zipcode in your formative years . I had to leave old ways, and old friends back. I'm honest better having had to do it . Keeping it real versus having options and bills being paid ahead of time on my own . Not looking what my folks had set up for us.

Having went from the wrong zip to right one it definitely does make a difference

I only have 20+ yrs of experience on Earth. I think along with the right network can help you along.

I don't care what many hoteps ole heads say. If they could live among peace and quiet instead of instathot drama and sirens in real life they would.

Black men also deal with intra-racism towards heterosexual black men from other blacks(women, men, lbgtqia+, etc...)

Breh, seriously, this is a thread about how Black men are hurt by White racism and you're gonna try to turn it into infighting bullshyt in the very first reply? :why:

Black women are not the cause of poor health in black men and outside of the internet no black gay dudes are pressing heterosexual black lives like that GTFO now.

The main point is obviously true, there gonna be a shytload of causes behind it and feels like all of them need to be addressed.

* Poorer health care due to direct racism (lesser treatment from doctors and hospitals or lack of trust of them)

* Poorer health care due to indirect racism (less access to good medical care due to poverty and job status and neighborhood placement)

* Higher life stress due to direct racism (racism on the job, racism at school, racism from the police, racism in the criminal justice system)

* Higher life stress due to indirect racism (more financial problems, more stressful job situations, less housing stability, etc.)

* Higher life stress due to historic racism (community concentrated in more stressful neighborhoods, more difficult family situations, etc.)

* Poor health decisions in part due to all of the above (worse dietary choices, worse access to healthy food, greater chance of addiction, greater chance of risky sex, greater likelihood of being the victim of violence)

I can't even pick one or another as sticking way out over the others. It feels like ALL of that shyt is crucial.

Actual PHDs who study black men for a living can attest to what I posted..... and evidence exists that prove what I posted.... you're a smart guy but this isn't your wheelhouse, :camby:...

The Cosmos
Water's been wet since the dawn of time. The western hemisphere, and the world as it is for that matter, don't want educated black men working. Black women, sure, we see this everyday. Between the two, based on employment figures, we can tell who is handpicked for an agenda and who isn't.

This isn't hard to figure out.

Look at how black boys are handled, and conditioned, from kindergarten to senior year and the outcomes aren't surprising.

This is how weaponizing the principle of human capital undermines an unfavorable demographic.

The system isn't rigged, it's doing what it's been set up to do: socially engineer outcomes that keep black people at a disadvantage, particularly black men.

While this is all true, what now?

Are we going to homeschool our kids?

Are we going to start and support black businesses? Support the careers of aspiring black doctors?

Create a black supply chain and import and export goods with Africa and the Carribean.

I hope this has taught y’all we can’t rely upon the dominant society to give us anything. Certainly not value or respect. We have to look within ourselves and each other to find those things.
