The answer is because rap music happened.

Lots of young folks with this talent exist but rap music is now the overwhelming sound globally that cats who would otherwise be singing are now rapping......not only are they rapping, but they're embarrassed to sing because in order to showcase this type of singing you have to sing about love or GOD.

Basically you have to show off your "sensitive" side and rap music (not just "rap music" but "hood/street/gangsta" rap) has made it to where black men can't do that.
