Why do people act like this matter? Of course she doesn't know and that doesn't matter. What the hell does her knowing Aretha franklin songs got to do with her talent?

People are bugging. It's one thing if u genuinely are interested in the history of your genre. But to say it's mandatory to "know your history" is delusional.

Hell is Aretha even someone she should be looking up? Wouldn't her "history" be Mary J,Brandy,Moncia,Mya,Alicia Keys etc?

Only thing these topics do is show your age.

She's not a normal 24 year old woman tho, she is standing on the foundations women such as Aretha Franklin built, she should know her history

She's 24, Im 31 and there's TONS of music I didn't discover till I got older. I'm taking about 90's hip-hop like group home, ATCQ, Gangstarr stuff that I always knew about but just couldn't appreciate in my formative years when I was more into Dipset, Kanye, Jay, Nas. Etc.

Likewise she probably grew up on Ashanti, Mary J, Alicia and stuff like that

So relax guys, she has plenty of time to grow and appreciate the older music that came before her time. Not everyone has the same passion, time or energy to do discover music at the same pace...sometimes you just got to let things unfold and discover music when the time comes for you. I always found that one of the most beautiful aspects of being a music head

I'm still discovering new artists and catalogues, and it's dope

People in their 20s grew up to their parents playing 90's music (mainly hip-hop). Aretha is great but she never gets play outside of Respect.

Even old school stations start at the 80s and neglect stuff before then. Where are you really going to hear Aretha's music? Same way you're not going to hear Run DMC or 2Pac generally unless it's on a commercial or movie.
