Elon and Trump are the front men for something more global than being president of the U.S.. Elon won't ever be president. It doesnt serve the purpose and it takes an amendment that would require 2/3 of congress approval, which is way too divided for that to ever happen.
If Elon is ever elected that should be everyones queue to start leaving the country.
