Elon Musk Threatens to Move Tesla's HQ After County Blocks Its Reopening

"Frankly, this is the final straw," Musk tweeted. Musk also announced his intent to file a lawsuit against Alameda County officials "immediately," adding, "The unelected & ignorant 'Interim Health Officer' of Alameda is acting contrary to the Governor, the President, our Constitutional freedoms & just plain common sense!" Musk also encouraged Tesla shareholders to file a class-action suit against the county.

The latest back-and-forth between Tesla and Alameda County officials began on Thursday, when a memo sent to Tesla employees indicated that its Fremont plant would reopen "at 30% our normal headcount per shift," as reported by TechCrunch. Alameda officials responded on Friday with a firm reminder that the county's stay-in-place order would remain in effect for Tesla, and all other "non-essential" operations in the county, until May 31, with the exception of "basic" operations...

"We have informed Tesla of all of the conditions that must exist for phasing in the safe reopening of various sectors of the economy and the community. Tesla has been informed that they do not meet those criteria and must not reopen. We welcome Tesla's proactive work on a reopening plan so that once they fit the criteria to reopen, they can do so in a way that protects their employees and the community at large."

Good for Alameda. GOP is going against the experts' recommendations based on what I've read and heard.

Tesla isn’t the GOP :russ:

if Elon wants to take on the risk of being sued if one of his workers gets corona and dies then that’s his risk to take. I’d imagine a company like Tesla can figure out a way to operate with social distancing in place as well as other safe guards. I mean Wal Mart and grocery stores are open and packed with people in close proximity but we’re really trying to say a giant warehouse where people are spread out is a high risk? That’s nonsense. Let Elon take the risk if he wants it.

Are we certain that workers who get sick could and would be able to successfully sue and win against employers that force them to work under these conditions?

If it's a class-action lawsuit, then maybe. If they signed some arbitration clause in their contract, then the probability of them getting screwed is high.

Let's hope the free market responds Monday morning :lupe:

Need to see that stock take a hit.

TSLA is the most ridiculous stock, it goes up on any news positive or negative. Elon stans already spinning this as a positive anyway, so I doubt it goes down. It's almost at an all-time high after Elon tweeted that the stock price was too high. I've made a nice amount flipping TSLA calls over the last couple weeks and if it dips on Monday, i'm gonna buy more calls. I don't see how TSLA substantially dips without another broad market crash, so I've been hedging with long-dated VXX calls
