Oregon mother suing owner of emotional support dog that 'mauled' her daughter at airport | Daily Mail Online

A mother has launched a lawsuit against the owner of an 'emotional support animal' after it allegedly attacked and mauled her daughter.

Mirna Gonzalez is claiming $1.1 million for her daughter Gabriella Gonzalez in medical costs as well as the child's 'pain and suffering'.

The incident at Portland International Airport in Oregon started when the girl petted a pit bull, which then bit her causing 'serious injuries'.

Filed in Multnomah County on Monday, the suit claims dog owner Michelle Brannan 'should have known the animal had vicious propensities', and that Alaska Airlines should not have allowed the dog in the gate waiting area.

The attack took place on December 18, 2017 as Gabriella Gonzalez was waiting at Gate C7 with her family for a flight to Texas, according to court documents.

Brannan is then believed to have arrived with her pitbull that was not confined to a kennel.

The young girl was then allegedly given permission to pet the animal, which then bit her, leaving a deep cut on her lip and other marks.

Ms Gonzalez 'suffered injury to the muscles, tendons, bones, nerves and soft tissue of her face, eye, eyelid, tear duct and lip,' according to the lawsuit.

She required surgery for 'complex facial lacerations and a damaged tear duct'.

Unlike service animals such as guide dogs, support animals need no training and tend to be used for mental health reasons rather than physical aliments.

Brannan told the Alaska Airlines that the pit bull was an emotional support animal and was allowed through the security and ticket desks.

Alaska Airlines guidelines state emotional support animals are free to travel with owners but 'must be leashed and under control of the owner at all times'.

A Port of Portland spokesperson said that Brannan's dog should have been in a crate or kennel and said that this was not the case at the time of the alleged attack.

Fox News approached Alaska Airlines, who declined to comment saying 'it would be inappropriate' to make a statement at this time.

It is not known what happened to the dog after the incident.

I'm sorry, but why are the mentally ill and emotionally unstable allowed to have pit bulls? :dwillhuh: I could see a wiener dog or a turtle, but a pit bull for crying out loud?:mindblown:

Dog should be killed and owner should be in jail.

Now....as a parent I don’t let my child walk up to NO strange dogs trying to pet them. I’m gonna be racist here but Latino parents especially Mexicans are real loose with their supervision of their kids. shyt is amazing how they are oblivious to what their kids are doing. I wonder if the parent was by the child’s side while she was going to pet that beast.
