1. Xcom 2
I loved the previous one, without ever playing the og pc versions, but this one upped the game on every level, from the timers on missions which make you play more aggressive, the new enemy types that push you deal with them differently, the different upgrade paths and just the moment to moment tension in playing a mission even when on a high level, and the the rebalancing of how you get new nations to join and how they must be protected all work in unison to make a truly great game. I actually need to go back and play on a harder difficulty on iron man
2. Witcher 3 blood and wine
when witcher 3 was in development I had penciled it in for goty, then it dropped and despite winning thousands of goty award I couldn't help but be a little disappointed, the combat was worse then in part 2, and the over arching story of trying to find ciri opposed the open world nature of the game, so in the end I did really enjoy the game but i was somewhat disappointed, then hearts of stone came out and I rebalanced my character and had more fun with it. I still wasn't ready for Blood and wine though, going to a whole new continent, doing so many fun side quest, and I really did enjoy the main mission and it was easier to keep track of as opposed to the main games plot. I really enjoyed my time with this game and it's probably my favorite WRPG now
3. Watch Dogs 2
Unlike a lot of ppl here I actually really enjoyed Watch Dogs part 1, so i was really hyped for the sequel. While the game doesn't improved on EVERY-thing from WD1 it does enough to be a better overall package. I really loved the main character and the interactions he has with his team are all very well handled. They also doubled down on hacking where now you have more options with the RC jumper and flying drone which is great and although the missions are generally the same objective is does mix it up in how you can achieve them. The side missions are actually very good with a good amount of story and spanning multiple missions, however some of them go on too long (Graffiti and atm) The coop and hacking other people is also really fun. Unfortunately it's not all peaches and cream, I suppose to make the hacking more attractive they somewhat gimped the shooting and it's not as responsive as WD1, they also got rid of digital trips which were a fun distraction, and driving is either the same or worst than part 1 which is weird since it wasn't that great in the first one.
4. The division
Ah the division, I'd been hyped about this one since it's first trailer, loved the beta and got the game and LOVED it, you guys may hate it now, but playing with @SumBlackguyz @Los! and the rest of the coli gang was some of the best times I had this year. Just a really fun tactical shooter, with some of the best cover mechanics out there, running through the missions for 4 brehs was really fun, shouting out enemies, hitting them with choppaz, getting your first gold items
then of course we got to the end game and it was..... nothing? the game was very poorly balanced at launch, luckily they went back and rebalanced things, and I look forward to playing survival in a couple days over winter break.
5. Steam World heist
This was a game similar to xcom except it's 2d and the aiming is real time, so when you just barely miss a person right next to you its your own damn fault. It's obviously not as deep as Xcom2 but i still had a ton of fun. I think the levels themself were randomly generated and it did a good job of ramping of the difficulty and adding new enemy types.
6. Doom
I never played the previous doom games besides at friends house, but this game is proabably my favorite FPS since..... Halo Reach? the speed, the weapons, the fact that there was no reloads, all of the secrets. I actually want to replay it on nightmare but the damn game is too freaking big now, like 70 gigs for all the updates smh
7. Ratchet and Clank
Never played the original game but I did love crack in time and into the nexus. I love the mix of shooter and platformer and the game is absolutely gorgeous. It does have a few small missteps but overall an excellent game
8. Hyper Light Drifter
Pixel art zelda with inspirations from old school anime like warriors of the wind, ninja scroll and akira? sign me up! ?I actually really loved this game, it was tough at times but very rewarding, a lot of exploration, it really did remind me of an SNES game. The story being told without words or dialogue was also a unique way to go
9. Oxen free
An adventure game with probably the best dialogue system out there, told a creepy and interesting story about an old navel base. I don't want to give away too much but I really appreciated the way the characters were written and the different way things could play out.
10. DE:MD
I absolutely loved DE:HR so i was sooo hyped for this and I did really enjoy the game. Prague was filled to the brim with interesting sidequests and the main missions were done very well indeed. They improved combat and movement so why does it go so low? Well the main story is kind of lacking, and it is VERY similar to the last one despite the amount of time between part 1 and part 2. The level design as well I feel should have been more varied, there were ALWAYS some freaking grates and air ducts to get inside some place, so i mainly used those but it would have been nice to actually be pushed to try out different tactics. The icarus teleport which was blatant taken from dishonored didn't work quite as well and was pretty finicky, also only 1 boss?
Back to the story, I kind of wish it was more over the top tbt, I love all the crazy conspiracy stuff and weirdos with fake russian accents but I wanted more, couldn't boss guy have had some weird international goons to fight? I will say this the hidden big reveal was huge
Please only click if you beat the game
does elevated the game some though
Also the whole augs = blacks was pretty forced and the marketing was borderline racist
Honorable mentions
Uncharted 4, good game but too much butt sliding
no I actually liked the game a fair bit but I felt they didn't have enough stealth options to really ghost through places and the combat wasn't fun enough to attack head on. Also RoTR was better come at me haters
Inside another great indie game, had to bump it off for DE MD, but just an incredibly well crafted game, beautiful animations, very atmospheric, good puzzles can't complain about this one.
Dishonored 2, I've owned the game for a couple weeks but haven't started because i've been busy and need to play the DLC from part 1 first.
Dishonorable mentions
No mans sky: I knew it was going to be trash and bought it day of release anyway
played a little with my wife since she loves space and exploration but the game was butt cheeks
Alienation, now it's not a bad game by any means but coming off games i loved liked reso gun and dead nation this was a bit of a disappointment, going diablo style was a bad move and once you beat the game once people only ever played the first world and soloing was pretty much impossible unless you farm the first level smh
Invisible inc: I love klei and mark of the ninja is a classic, also enjoyed dont starve but this PS4 was undercooked, the text was tiny and barely readable, the objectives were unclear at times and the tutorial wasn't very helpful, some of that has been patched and so hopefully i can try to get into this again.

The jensen you play as in the game is a clone , read more about it here I need to talk about Adam Jensen in Mankind Divided (Massive spoilers from DE:MD)
