You guys into production today don't fully understand how hard this was back then. The fact that he continued to use a roland w30 until the late 90s when there was better equipment says a lot. Even on his rhythm roulette, he uses a Motif for sampling. I've had a Motif ES for YEARS and never sampled a single note into it.

This is cool. One of the greatest producers. A lot of them got inspired the way he sampled songs and the whole funk sampled sound.

I’m into production. It simply says he was used to and comfortable with that piece of equipment and process over trying a newer piece of equipment. This is hella normal in the producing world
