Was this after Isiah's cosign in regards to Rodman's comment about Larry Bird being just another player if black? I don't see Bob Ryan being an unbiased source.
It was in one of the Complete Handbook of Pro Basketball during the mid-80s.
Where'd you see the quotes in regards to Isiah saying he was a bad defender.
A few years back now - I'm trying to look for it. It was in an article about his transformation into a more well-rounded and complete player; where he stated that he didn't show effort on the defensive end and gambled a lot.

Yeah I read the article, majority of it was focused on shooting percentages and efficiency numbers and the like with a little throwaway paragraph about defense and playmaking. They are two completely different players. Isiah is an all-time great and it's just ridiculous IMO to be comparing them outside of having similar names. The writer took his shots at Isiah calling him overrated based on advanced analytics and to me this article was just more of an excuse to talk down Isiah.
:dwillhuh:

You completely misinterpreted the entire thing.

Go back and look at the posts you dapped, you rockbrain. And then quoted them by cosigning what they were saying.

Both of you don't know what you're talking about. Ask any oldhead Pistons fan (that knows what they're talking about) on this board and they'll tell you the same thing. Zeke was not a great defender all throughout his career.

i don't have to asked an old head - cause i'm one
not a piston fan, but as a kid i saw plenty of bad boys games - to tell u zeke was a phenomenal defensive player... i even saw him in college at Indiana win a national champ off team defense

even this article states he played tremendous defense :mindblown: only on thecoli zeke not a great defender

regardless he was a better defender than Celtics Isaiah, and that's all that matters.

Pistons Zeke>>>>>>> Celtics Zeke

I. I would never label Zeke a "phenomenal" defensive player, because he was never that. He was a good defender during the back end of his career. He was no Kidd or Payton that's for sure.
II. You do realize that he was one of the least strongest defenders on those BB squads right? And being on those teams is half the reason why he has this defensive rep, right?
III. Prior to those BB squads, the Pistons weren't a particulalry great defensive team at all and Zeke was not a good defender - he even admitted so himself
IV. That article doesn't state he played tremendous defense, or even alludes to it. It states "In his prime, Isiah consistently rated as about a league-average defender by box plus-minus".
