Posted this in the HOA thread. I’m a huge fan of CaspianReport, Shirwan puts up some amazing content if you’re into geopolitics. As for the video the analysis is pretty much spot on and gives a very good overview of Ethiopia and its potential as well as issues to work on.

What makes Ethiopia so lethal is their diaspora is loyal and their country xenophobic af but they don't do it in a hateful way. They just want to make sure that they eat first. The biggest advantage is because they aren't divided on major issues anymore, they can focus on a common goal. That was not the case in the 80s and 90s.
Xenophobia can be good if you got a great diaspora but at some point, Ethiopia will have to expand throughout the continent. I honestly think America is kinda putting them in a position to have for opportunities compared to most Black majority nations on the continent. That said, they are fully deserving and taking advantage of it.
That’s slowly changing. The gradual erosion of unity is what’s caused a lot of the unrest. Understood, the diaspora is still mostly loyal but that’s also a mix of people that was either born here and don’t know the country well enough or people from back home that sometimes can play a negative role.
A lot of groups are swagger jacking the Black struggle on this side and applying it to themselves which is a false equivalency because no tribe in Ethiopia went through quite the same experience.
But there’s potential yes, only I’ve begun to look at the whole thing as much too small. Ethiopianism is something that’s hardly understood by Ethiopians. That’s why they got us arguing and killing each other. shyt frustrating breh....
No offense to my Ethiopian homies but Ethiopia losing the Eritrea area(which is an area BIGGER than South Korea btw) and thus losing it coast was probably the top 20 biggest fukk ups in modern history.
Ethiopia has one of the greatest military on the continent and yet.... Can't even project its full might on the East African region due to being landlocked. With no navy how far can you even go? Second, this gives opportunities to countries like Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania in the region to project their own might. And losing full access to the Red Sea and thus the Indian Ocean for trade was not good.

Selassie should’ve switched to a Constitutional Monarchy and introduce reforms so that Eritrea’s federated status wouldn’t matter because the rest of the country would be segmented by federated states. Unfortunately he was between a rock (old aristocracy) and a hard place (new educated generation being shut out) in terms of real reforms. The Unionist movement completely died out because there was an assumption that because Selassie invested in Eritrea and had Eritreans in high level positions that the separatists could never catch on. Gettin overthrown kicked the independence movement into high gear because everyone wanted to get away from the Derg.

Impressive. I use Ethiopia Airlines when I travel internationally and it is always great. When we flew over Addis Ababa the skyline was beautiful and I saw constant light in the buildings. I cant say the same when I landed in Lagos to a dirt runway and complete darkness. Nigeria needs to be dissolved.
