The US is a regressive country that insists on trying to invent new ways to do things other countries just do better.
Trains, bike paths, busses, and city planning that allows for walking are all things Europe has that makes the US look like an ancient relic trying to apply a shiny coat of paint.

Funny definition of "falling behind." I view wiping out an entire profession (taxi drivers) while simultaneously trying to put more vehicles on the road (more robotaxis = more profit) instead of investing in public transport as nothing short of a catastrophic failure.
